Spelling Lists for Beyond...

We are completing LHFHG and moving into Beyond for 1st grade. My dd6 (almost 7) is great with her phonics and reading. I just got our guide in for next year and have a quick question. Some of the spelling lists (List 1) are words that she can already easily spell but when I start looking forward som...

Re: Little Hearts or Beyond Little Hearts?

I would second what everyone else is saying. My dd6 will be 7 in September and we just completed LHFHG and she found it very challenging at times. And definitely don't skip the phonics! And like a previous post said, if she gets done with phonics mid way through the year, then move on the Emerging R...

Re: LHTH all in one sitting or sprinkled through the day?

We do it all in one sitting. I find once they have the "free" time, it is all downhill!

Re: Hyperventilating about Schedule!

Don't hyperventilate yet! I feel your pain! I have 3 with another on the way any day now. DD6 is completing LHFHG and DS4 is completing LHTH. DS2 is doing whatever he wants to participate in. Next year, we are moving to Beyond and then repeating LHTH for DS4 and DS2. That will prep DS4 for Kindergar...

Re: Really Struggling...and need help!

I am not sure what I can offer other than to second what was said in a previous post. Make sure you look at the placement chart. We are using LHFHG for K this year with my dd6. And I would not push the younger 2 into Bigger. I would stick to the chart and probably put them in LHFHG. I know it seems ...

Re: New to Dakota and I have a LOAD of questions!

This past year was my first year homeschooling and using HOD. First, let me say WELCOME! I have really enjoyed HOD with my children. I have 2 that I am actually schooling right now and using LHTH and LHFHG. Next year, we will have 3 in "school." First question, I think where you place your children ...

Re: displaying art/school work

We have what we affectionately call our "Art Wall". I have 2 kids that are doing school work and the third one (age 2) participates when he wants to. I just used a ribbon that stretches most of a small wall next to our kitchen and put it up with 2 thumbtacks. I hang pictures, etc. up with clothes pi...

Re: Suggestions, please...

Welcome to HOD! This is our first year homeschooling as well. My dd is in K5 this year and using LHFHG and we are moving into Beyond in the fall. She turns 7 in September and I found that LHFHG was very challenging for her this past year. So I agree with some of the other posts that you may want to ...

Re: Any advice would be nice!

My daughter does this, too. She is only 6 and I found that she really couldn't get into the books that we were reading during story time. I switched the books around to something else that she was a little more interested in and then would just ask her questions after each chapter. She really likes ...

Re: A disturbing testimony about a book series.....

I agree with the other moms that the reviews are extreme. Carrie, I appreciate the fact that the curriculum you publish is CHRIST centered. The Word needs to be at the center of what we are teaching our children. If our children are centered on the word of God, they are much less likely to fall astr...

Re: Thank you, Carrie!

Ladies, thanks so much for the encouragement. When it comes to our children, I think we all can agree that we want what's best and sometimes we agonize over what that is. My husband and I are so happy that the Lord led us to homeschooling, and we are even more excited about the changes and the growt...

Thank you, Carrie!

Carrie, I just want to say thank you for putting this curriculum together. This is our first year homeschooling, and we are using LHFHG (dd, 5) and LHTH (ds,3). We were really skeptical at first as to whether homeschooling would work for us since our daughter was not happy about the idea of doing "s...

Re: 1st Day with PHFHG, LHTH & DITHR. I'm tired..

Okay, I need some reassurance on this...I am wondering about doing more than 2 guides. How in the world do you balance this? We are currently doing 2 and some days are a struggle. I was wondering if I should make the oldest repeat a year and just keep her ahead in the core stuff (Math/English) but d...

Re: Question on use of the teacher manuals

This is our first year of homeschooling and I got a great checklist from my pastor's wife that she used when she homeschooled. I don't think HOD had been published yet but I just adjusted hers to fit our schedule and curriculum. I put check boxes beside everything and then check it off each day. We ...
