Re: what to do for kdg next year??
I think that starting phonics, handwriting and math as he's ready for them (maybe stagger-start them?) would be just fine for K. You are not holding him back if you can see that he's not ready for much seatwork yet. That will give you the flexibility to add other activities as your (and his) interes...

Re: New Here, have some questions!
Glad it helped. Also, Carrie is planning on writing through high school. If you look at the Scope and Sequence chart (p. 10 of the HOD catalog, or to the right of the main HOD webpage) you can see the outline.

Re: New Here, have some questions!
Hi and welcome! There are some good comparison threads out there, but I guess I didn't bookmark them. Hopefully someone else can find them... I, too, have compared the two (and have personally read through MFW K,1st, Adventures, ECC, and HOD Little Hands through Preparing) and I definitely don't thi...

Re: Singapore Kindergarten Math
Hi Kira, I'm not Carrie, but I wanted to let you know that HOD has a special arrangement with Singapore Math to sell the older version of Earlybird 2A/2B to match the LHFHG plans. You can buy it through HOD. As far as I know, they have no current plans to rewrite the LHFHG activities for the standar...

Re: After LHTH?
We did LHTH from 3.5-4.5yo, and are now going through the R&S B (Bible stories) and D-E-F kinder workbooks, Singapore Essential Math K, and looking for a good fit for phonics. We're reading lots of library books and doing lots of coloring, cutting and gluing activities - I can hardly keep up with he...

Re: LHFHG burgess animal stories
Hi! I don't think there are different versions of the Burgess stories - we used Reddy Fox available free online before the rest of our books arrived and it was fine. The guide schedules the Burgess ones by chapter, I believe. *Someone correct me if I'm remembering wrong :)* I think the main differen...

Re: Confused...
My ds has said the same thing when I've asked him what he thinks about school :D! I've just been very specific about how much he'll be reading aloud, and I don't ask him to do any more than I've said. Sometimes I let him read the questions out of the guide and answer them orally to me. I've also tol...

Re: Need to go slower?
I just keep 2 sticky tabs, one for the main page, and one for where we were in math. You can get packs by post-it at our grocery store or walmart that you can write on, and they last longer than sticky notes. Do you mean he was supposed to write out the words for the numbers, or the numerals? My ds'...

Re: Once again looking for help with placing
I had a year inbetween when we finished LHFHG and when ds was ready for Beyond. A few weeks before starting Beyond, we read through History for Little Pilgrims together again and made a basic timeline with 15-20 events on it. It took us just a few weeks and he enjoyed the overview, and it whetted hi...

Re: What should I do about math?
I suspect that EB math will be too easy after completing BJU K. He'll probably be ready to start SM 1A. Is it the cost of buying the Beyond guide early (totally understandable) or that you don't want to be working out of 2 guides? We've had 2 guides going for math for 2 years now, and it's really no...

Re: Once again looking for help with placing
I think that starting where you left off in LHFHG and just do the Reading about History, Rotating activity and Bible boxes. If he likes rhymes, do them as well. I would just go in order, and if you do more than one day's worth on a particular day, great, if not, that's fine too. It might take 30 min...

What HOD guide are you thinking about, and have you looked at the placement chart for your dc? Finding the right placement for each dc is very important to enjoying the programs. http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php Depending on the ages of your dc and your goals for them, I think FIA...

Re: LHFHG History
Is there a difference in the printing year? Mine says c2004, and all the readings make sense. They go from Noah's three sons, and people moving away from the tower of Babel on day 1, to God blessing Jacob on day 5.

Welcome! Have you looked at the placement chart? http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php I haven't done Preparing, so I'll address your dd7...Is she split between the 2 guides? Maybe take a look IRL at a few of the storytime read-alouds to get an idea if one would be more interesting to ...

Re: Going to Half Speed LHFHG?
I would slow down in some way, whether by stretching out the left side+storytime (maybe doing half each day), or by doing the full guide only 4 days a week and the 3 Rs only on the 5th day. Or even 3 days a week, just remind yourselves what's going on in RAH and storytime before you start each week....
