Re: RTR: a concern about The Story of the Middle Ages

I have read both posts, and while I appreciate your points, and the book offers much in the way of historical information (I have taught this time period before, BTW, so I am familiar with the subject matter), I think, for my family, there will be a better source. I think as parents we need to be aw...

Re: RTR: a concern about The Story of the Middle Ages

Carrie, for some reason, I didn't see your first reply before I responded to the second. Thanks for taking the time to share these thoughts, it's interesting to read your thoughts on the matter, and thoughts about the Native American population near you. I'll read it again more thoroughly when dinne...

Re: RTR: a concern about The Story of the Middle Ages

Carrie, thank you for your reply. I did see the context when I read all the sentences in the whole chapter, and I did notice, when I read it again, that the Huns were made to seem less than human in a number of ways, described as beasts. I love history, and do not look for revisionist history - I do...

Re: RTR: a concern about The Story of the Middle Ages

While I am not as upset as when I first posted, I would still love to hear Carrie's take on this; I think it's worth consideration.

Re: RTR: a concern about The Story of the Middle Ages

Good morning; Having slept on this, I first want to apologize for posting such a strong reaction; the mama bear in me came out on behalf of my kiddos. I believe that Carrie does put a great deal of thought and prayer into what we have found to be a lovely curriculum up to this point, and it is my ho...

Re: RTR: a concern about The Story of the Middle Ages

The first I mentioned was on page 12; the second was on pages 16-17. This version was purchased through HOD by a friend so I believe it's the version intended to be used with RTR.

RTR: a concern about The Story of the Middle Ages

I have been so excited about CTC this year as three of our sons have enjoyed it, and was really looking forward to another year of HOD learning with RTR next year. However, I was able to peruse some of the books scheduled in RTR, and have a serious concern about content in the Story of the Middle Ag...

Re: Resurrection to Reformation question - MOH

Thank you, that thread was very helpful in explaining the reasoning. Lynn, it's good to hear that your son is really enjoying MOH3; I wasn't sure how my sons would receive it after how much they've loved the CTC books this year.

Resurrection to Reformation question - MOH

Good morning; We've been using CTC this year with three of our boys, ages 11-14, the oldest with extensions. I want to say, this is one of the most fantastic years of homeschooling we've had thus far. I love the book choices, I love seeing the growth in my kids in so many areas, and the schedule, be...

Re: CTC notebooking pages - small spaces, what do you do?

Thanks, Carrie. We actually did implement Lynn's suggestion today, and my perfectionistic ds11 was very pleased with how it turned out. No fear of ditching the pages - he was no-way, no-how going to let that happen! You will perhaps be happy to know, the boys are really enjoying the pages, and now, ...

Re: CTC notebooking pages - small spaces, what do you do?

This looks great, thanks for sharing that visual. I love the way you have made it work for him; we do a lot of that sort of thing by necessity here, and I like this suggestion. My perfectionist who wants to stay in the boxes will really appreciate this suggestion and I think it will meet his needs t...

I think I can picture that - it makes sense and keeps it together. Thanks for the suggestion!

CTC notebooking pages - small spaces, what do you do?

Good morning; We're using CTC for our two 11-year-old sons, as well as our 13-yo son, with extensions. The two younger boys are using the notebooking pages, and we are having some trouble with the small amount of space provided for narrations. They are both decent writers and aren't struggling with ...

Re: CTC - ease my concerns about history content?

Thanks, all, for your reassurance and advice; it is good to hear how rich you have all found this curriculum to be. I appreciate the heads-up about the storytime books as well, LynnH. I hadn't purchased "Boy of the Pyramids" because I own so many of the boy favorites and because I have so much on my...

Re: CTC - ease my concerns about history content?

Thank you, I do appreciate your encouraging reply. I believe the kids are placed appropriately according to the placement charts; I have two 5th graders using the program, and have decided the fairly advanced 8th grader really needs his own program, so he is doing the same time period with different...
