Are the books available at conventions?
I am going to the Southeast Homeschool Expo in Atlanta on Aug 1. I was wondering if books will be available there and if so, is CTC going to be there too?

Re: combine or not to combine...
Well, I can tell you what we do. I am not very good at multitasking. I also like school to be done by noon. :) I have always tried to combine kids, but my reasons are for family continuity as opposed to simplifying. I really like having everyone gather around the couch. This year we are doing two pr...

Re: Differences between Language Arts...
I wish I could say that I have a definitve schedule all ready, but I don't! We homeschool year round so things can get monotonous. I basically go with something until they are tired of it and then switch programs until they are tired of that... That said, this is the schecule I am playing wit...

Re: Differences between Language Arts...
Well, I don't have any experience with the WTM language arts (FLL). I shied away from that because I just don't take well to the educational philosophy presented there. I have used Rod and Staff and Queen's. I love both! Rod and Staff is very solid but can become a bit redundant if used continually....

Re: New to HOD but not to homeschooling...
I just wanted to add that I was in the same boat as you. :D I had NO idea that HOD was so CM. I don't know why, but I guess I must have not understood the program or else I would have jumped on board years ago. I have been doing my own CM thing forever and this is such a relief! We are only in our s...

Re: Will Bigger Hearts For His Glory work for my 3rd and 5th?
I think it would be fine, especially if you use the extentions. I love Bigger. My kids are actually narrating from the Eggleston books while we do preparing. They are really great books.

Re: New to HOD and have a couple of questions
Hello, We used Sonlight last year and are doing Preparing now. I really, really like it much better than Sonlight. As for American history, I am having my children narrate from the Christian Liberty Press history book, A Child's History of America which was an extention book from Bigger. I also LOVE...

Re: Combining Preparing & Bigger--would this work?
I know all about the Sonlight thing. We tried to do two cores, but it was just too much. Now I am doing Little Hearts and Preparing and it is going much, much better. It is also more fun and age appropriate.

Re: LHFHG for a 4 year old?
My four year old (5 in August) is really, REALLY, loving LHFHG. I have the coloring book that goes with Little Pilgrims and she is doing Queen's LLFLO for thinking/phonics. She has been very used to sitting for long read alouds for most of her life though. :) She is the youngest and has had lots of ...

Re: Can I just say how much I love this?
I have to say it was really, really hard to move to Preparing instead of Bigger. Bigger was working just fine, but I had to "bump" a lot of things for my oldest and I just came to realize that Preparing could be done without all the "tweaking". Since my kids did core 3 from Sonlight last year, which...

Can I just say how much I love this?
We are doing Little Hearts and now just started Preparing. I wanted to keep doing Bigger  , but I realized that my CM educated kids needed the written narrations and longer dictations that Preparing offers. I console myself by the fact that my youngest two will really enjoy it in a couple of ye...

Re: Replacement for Rod & Staff Workbooks in LHFHG?
I LOVE the Queen Language Lessons workbooks. My daughter is really enjoying hers with LHFHG. This covers both the workbook/thinking skills and phonics boxes for us. There are three choices at this level. My daughter is doing the first book, Language Lessons for Little Ones.

Re: Anyone Else Doing Year Round School?
We have always schooled year round. We have moved 12(!) times for the military since 2001 and because of this I never know when I will be packing, preparing, etc. If we are home, we do school and then I don't feel guilty if I take a day off here and there. It is too hot here in AL too to be out duri...

Question about how much is necessary?
Ok, we have been doing Bigger and Little Hearts. I am continuing Little Hearts with my 4, almost 5 year old. I have everything for Bigger, but am thinking about dropping it for now and doing Preparing (which I just bought) for my boys who will be 8, 10 and 11 when I start. The only reason I decided ...

Re: Anyone using HOD AND Apologia elem science?
We are doing Swimming Creatures (Zoology 2) along with Bigger. We do the science experiments in HOD, but not too much in the Zoo text yet. We read short sections everyday for narration practice. Even if Carrie's lessons do not match up the experiments are still fun and so far they have actually blen...
