Re: RtR for high school

I forgot to add that we will be starting Michael Farris's Constitutional Literacy course next week (it's on order) as a family. My 3 high school boys (12th, 10th and the 9th grader) will do it for credit while my younger kids will watch the DVDs along with us but not do any of the activities. So by ...

RtR for high school

Hello ladies. Long time no "see" ;) We've taken a year off of HOD (gasp!) to do Geography but plan to resume next year where we left off and that is at RtR. My 7th grader and 9th graders used CtC last year for 6th and 8th while my 5th grader (4th then) used Preparing. I'm skipping Ancients with the ...

Re: High School Chem: Could somebody compare these 2 books?

Thank you, Carrie! I did read the post about Wile's curriculum which is what made me question my decision to use Spectrum. That, along with the cost of the materials to make the program work well had me leaning toward Dr. Wile's new book. After looking through the Spectrum text more thoroughly today...

Re: High School Chem: Could somebody compare these 2 books?

Thanks, Lynn. I have read many negative reviews and upon further reading of the text, I think I am going to sell it. It just doesn't look "solid" enough for my taste. Thanks!

High School Chem: Could somebody compare these 2 books?

Hoping that somebody here might be able to compare 2 chemistry curriculums for me. This is a bit OT b/c I am not using the new American History Guide yet. I have been following all the updates for Jay Wile's new Chem course and see that it will be available on Aug. 17. I own a copy of The Spectrum C...

Re: Please pray for my family!

:'( I am so sorry. Praying for you and your precious children. I can't even imagine the grief, pain, anger, confusion, fear, etc. that is hitting you all right now. Hugs from far away and prayers that our God of all comfort would wrap His loving arms around all of you and make His presence known to ...

WG for a senior...any changes necessary?

Hi all. Haven't posted here in a while. Hope everyone is doing well and your school year has been blessed and productive. We've been humming along here this year, grateful to be back with HOD for many of our children. It sure does make for a "smoother" year. ;) With some ongoing issues relating to m...

Re: Can we talk Science please?

Hmm..well, that is something to consider, Daneale. I won't be able to afford the higher Guides along with our current ones so I would have to do science w/out the use of Carrie's plans. :( While I can't say I love Apologia Science, I do not hate it. For the time being, I have decided to finish Land ...

Re: Can we talk Science please?

As I ponder this even further, I am thinking about ditching the Land Animals study in this Guide (CtC). While I love Carrie's activities and projects/experiments and some that are listed in the text, I do not feel it is a very "important" topic to be studied in depth (at least not for us and not at ...

Can we talk Science please?

Part of the dilemma of having an older child use the lower guides is the Science content not being "enough". :/ What do you do? Tweak? Ditch the HOD Science in lieu of something else? Do the science as scheduled in the upper guides? So, I have my 8th grader in CtC. He is academically behind in most ...

Re: Question about EIW and grammar...

I agree with Lynn. And, EIW grammar is only the first half of the book. I have been debating about EIW as well, but in a different way. My 6th grader is using it and I wonder what I will do for grammar when he finishes the grammar portion of EIW. My 9th grader who is in the WG Guide uses Analytical ...

Re: First Day of World Geography guide

Yesterday was our first day. My 9th grader is doing WG. I decided to go half-speed for the first week (so finishing a unit in 2 weeks instead of 1). So far, I have not heard many complaints from him...which is the best to expect from this child who does not like school but would rather be playing ba...

Re: Please pray for Diana Waring!

Thanks for praying. Here is the latest update from Diana herself: "Thank you all for praying. My stress test was negative, and the doctor sent me home to rest and relax. He thinks this was probably stress-induced, which can make it look like heart attack. The nurse and I thought he should have writt...

Re: Please pray for Diana Waring!

UPDATE from this morning: Diana is feeling okay this morning. She had a stress test and is awaiting those results. It's possible she may have a cardiac cath later today. The doctor mentioned to her that sometimes patients present with classic heart attack symptoms and it turns out to be stress. Pray...
