Re: Beyond for 6yo Grade 1
My dd turned 6 just a couple weeks ago and started Beyond today. She loves it. We did LHFHG last year with her and she liked that as well, but much of it was not challenging enough for her. She is an advanced reader and also advanced in math. Writing is normal for her age. Her 8yo brother is also do...

Re: Frustrated
I can tell you my experience. My 3 boys (12, 10 and 9 last year) ALL placed in Preparing (with the older doing extentions). I was thrilled b/c it meant I only had 2 guides to run instead of 3. Well, as the year progressed, it became very clear that my 9yo could not handle the workload. He has some "...

Re: Sons wants to study a different history
Could you get a copy of the Drive Through American History DVDs? Those are interesting and educational and could easily be watched during one's leisure. I also agree with using American History books for DITHOR! There are so many great Biographies, Realistic/Historical fiction for American History. ...

Re: teaching multiple ages
I am running 3 (possibly 4) guides this year (Beyond, Bigger, RtR and possibly LHTH) as well as guiding my 10th grader through MFW WHL. I am overwhelmed just typing that and I haven't even gotten started! A good place to begin would be skimming through the "Let's Share our Schedules" thread. Julie a...

Re: Anyone here affected by the earthquake?
We felt it here in southern PA. I didn't feel a thing but my kids did. Nothing major, just enough to say, "that was an earthquake, how cool!". Epicenter was in the Richmond area of VA and friends of ours down there said they definitely felt it but it wasn't enough to do any kind of major damage. Jus...

Re: Start where we left off or begin new program?
Thanks for your reply, Laura. It doesn't bother me to be on different Unit days, but I am concerned about not having enough time in the year to finish RtR if I take the next 5 weeks to finish Preparing. Make sense? I pulled out the Preparing guide to see what we would be missing and I think what I w...

Start where we left off or begin new program?
Hi everyone. I haven't been on the boards for a while now. Trying to take a break from hs boards as most of the time I left feeling so defeated and discouraged. Seemed like everyone was having such success with homeschooling and with HOD and their kids were happily learning, etc. Not so in our house...

Re: Placement help for gifted 5yo, struggling 8yo
Marie and Kathleen, thanks! I thought seriously about having ds8 and ds10 share the Bigger Guide. Ds10 won't be happy b/c he also is very competitive but oh well! It might kick his tail a bit and motivate him to "grow up" a bit and stop being "the little brother" to ds13 and ds11 and be the "big bro...

Placement help for gifted 5yo, struggling 8yo
Hello again, everyone! I'm back with more questions about placement for my kiddos and this time it's not about ds9. :D I've decided to drop him back to Bigger, starting as soon as I get my guide. Here is my new dilemma. I have a very bright and advanced 5yo. She is reading well above her age level y...

Re: Just *thought* I had made my mind up...LOL
Well, I am certainly not an expert on this, but I combined my dd5 and ds7 (8 now) in LHFHG this year. I did find many of hte activities a bit "babyish" for my ds and even for dd, but that's just us. Bible, History, Science, the art projects, etc. were perfect. Math activities were fun but not quite ...

Re: Going BACK a guide?
Hi Marie! Marie in OH, right?
Thanks for the encouragement. I am excited about next year and just hope to be able to finish out this year strong. Running 3 guides just sounds crazy, but with God's help I know I can do it!

Re: Going BACK a guide?
Thanks Rebecca! I appreciate your honest advice. I will not be combining ds9 with my youngers. My dd5 (soon 6) and ds8 will be doing Beyond and my older 2 boys will be doing RtR. All fit perfectly into those guides. Dd14 has her own high school program and ds3 isn't doing anything formal for school,...

Re: Going BACK a guide?
I do feel good about backing up to Bigger and starting ASAP. He is only doing core subjects now and alternating days with science and history in Preparing. He is on Level 2 in dictation. In the past week, I have noticed some positive changes in ds9 (10 in beg. May). He is excited about turning 10 an...
