Re: Bigger in 4 days

Hi! We are doing Bigger in 4 days for my daughter who is in 2nd grade because we do classes elsewhere one day a week. We usually do Poetry, Bible, Hymns and Storytime during breakfast all 5 days. Whatever is not completed during breakfast we will do during lunch or supper but we are usually able to ...

Re: memorization and singapore?

It just occurred to me that Singapore does have a math game. Maybe you could use it for something different than working through the workbook. My daughter really enjoys it. It is not compatible with Windows 7 though. I know some people have liked the computer game and others have not but my dd has e...

Re: memorization and singapore?

Michelle, I had the same question about my daughter just a couple of months ago about halfway through 1b. We just finished beyond so it sounds like we are at the same place as you. We do all of the hands on activities but it seemed like she was just not getting it. She actually understood multiplica...

Re: Behind? Or ok?

I am also a rule follower so I feel like the units have to be done in one week Monday- Friday. I am trying to work on this and I am getting better about doing day 5 on Monday if I need to. However, I still try to get day 1 also done on Monday so the rest of the week is not messed up for me. Like I s...

Re: Behind? Or ok?

We started the first week in August and began unit 9 today. We have had so many interruptions between my sister's wedding, company in town, and having to go out of town that we are going very slow this year.

Re: Handwriting

We use HWT for my daughter who is 6. We used the k program last year and reviewed this year with 1st. The paper is confusing so I only use the HWT paper when working in the workbook for everything else we use regular 3-lined handwriting paper. I like the formation of the letters with HWT and how it ...

Re: Luuucy, you got some splaining to do.

I was just thinking on this topic yesterday (I am a planner) and discussing it with my husband. Our daughter is doing Beyond for first grade and it fits her perfectly. If we continue to do one guide a year then she will be completely done with HOD at the end of 7th. As of right now I am looking at 2...

Re: copywork/poetry in Beyond

Have you heard of the Startwrite software? It is a computer program where you can make your own handwriting pages. There may be some others out there or free things on the web but this is the program that we use. There are several different fonts so you can pick the one that most matches the handwri...

Re: Question about pencil grip............

The Handwriting without Tears program suggests using golf sized pencils for handwriting to promote proper grasp. We have used the smaller sized pencils for our daughter as well as the short colored pencils and broken crayons to help with grasp. This promotes proper grasp because there is no room on ...

Re: Good morning! We are starting today............

We also started this morning. We are doing Beyond this year and today has been wonderful. We started our morning out celebrating first grade by having breakfast with one of her friends. It really helped get her excited about starting school up again. Have a great first week!

Re: Question about the bookcovers...

The cover on my LHFHG guide has held up really well considering it has traveled all over this country several times. It has also traveled back and forth between my parent's houses and to dr appointments in a backpack. It doesn't look brand new but it is still in really great shape which is surprisin...

Re: Anyone used Liberty's Kids videos with Beyond?

I just ordered these for my daughter yesterday off of Amazon for under $30 for the entire set. We also rented them from Netflix but loved them so much that we decided to buy them.I thought they would help give my daughter a good visual of the history she is reading about. I would love to also hear h...

Re: My son has autism what do I do now?

I use to work in a pediatric outpatient occupational therapy clinic before staying home with my daughter. My suggestion would be to ask your son's therapists. They should have suggestions and be able to assist you in setting up your schooling to be of the most benefit to your son. We worked with sev...

I am going on Friday and so excited about attending some of the workshops. I am looking for a Latin program and state history while there at the book fair. Also, looking forward to the Heart of Dakota booth! :D
