This is in Bigger, not Beyond I believe. :D

Re: dictation...getting them correct

Carrie, very interesting. I wish you were coming to AZ. It would be interesting to see how you went from being a public school teacher, to changing to CM views. There was the post on "trust". I'm working on it. LOL! I'm a natural speller and while I was taught rules, I don't remember using them. Eve...

Re: dictation...getting them correct

Thanks Carrie. We've been doing another spelling program and I'm going to try Bigger's dictation instead. So far she's gotten them all right. But I highly doubt we'll be without error through the rest of the book. I wondered though when she sees it to study whether she knows the spelling or just has...

dictation...getting them correct

For Bigger, if dd gets the dictation correct on the first try, the next day (or next time it's scheduled), do we just move on to the next dictation blurb in the back of the book or are we done with spelling for the week? And if the answer is the first part, what do we do if you run out of dictation ...

Re: Mapping...

I can't say that I'm having a problem really. I just like to see the locations on a bigger scale in relation to where we live, like the Delaware River/Trenton. None of my maps or globe has this river labeled. It would be neat to see it in relation to the US as a whole instead of an inset. I can show...

Re: HOD Spelling?

I don't have time to read this all at the moment, so I'm going to read it over in my comfy chair this evening. :D I will say though, that my dd can spell words well, key word being "words," but when she spells them in a sentence or paragraph, the spelling is not so well. I would guess that dictation...

Laura

No help here, just want to watch this thread. I have that "trust" issue.

Re: Cover of CTC Guide...

Ha! I wonder what the game is too. I don't have CTC, but the catalog cover is the same and I had my magnifying glass out to figure this out.

See what you did to me? That's how I spent my evening! So yes, do tell.....

Mapping...

For mapping (in Bigger for now) I'm having a problem finding marked areas that are historical, like the Cumberland Gap. I know where it is, but where can you find a map that would contain historical era locations marked that would also include the states? I have a 2 wall maps from our map store and ...

Re: Homeschooling Only One

This was probably our biggest problem was teacher vs parent. I learned a lot! I learned a lot of patience; still am. I'll also say that when my dd was around 6-7, she was less than pleasing to be around for school. She saw it as me interrupting her play time. So I got out the ugly teacher mask. It w...

Re: Counting by tens

I love the math u see approach to explaining place value, which uses the word "Units" for instead of ones. My dd also got confused till I brought out the Number Street. Draw 2 houses Tens (will hold what ever your counting with up to 90 spaces) and the units house much smaller (only has 9 spaces) T...

Re: Anyone else annoyed at the use of this type of language?

I don't think any of it is bad at all. To me "geez" comes from gee whiz. As far as cripe, I don't use it. It's an odd sounding word, but I suppose everything has some sort of origin. And gosh! Oh my gosh! What would I do without it? I can't imagine  it has any connotation to God. But then so ...
