Thanks for all the great responses...and such humorous ones too
I've decided I will write in the manuals. It will be so liberating!!!!! I like the idea of using colored check marks since some of my manuals will be going through 2 more sets of kids.
Blessings to you all!

Question on use of the teacher manuals
I'm curious if anyone writes in the teacher manuals for any given level. I would feel much more organized if I checked each box off after completing, especially because I'll be working with 2 manuals. If I do this, I will feel compelled to purchase a new manual to use when the younger kids get to th...

Re: Had planned on HOD but enrolled dd in K12 VA
Tammi, I have to agree with the 2 previous posters. I used k12 for 3 years 6 years ago. It was ALOT of work on the parent and student!!! I had to stop because my school day was going from early morning to after dinner. The kids were overwhelmed, frustrated and so was I. After 11 years of homeschooli...

Re: Does anyone use BJU English in place of R&S?
Thankyou Carrie! I appreciate your explanation of why you choose Rod & Staff. I wish my one daughter(10 yrs.) wasn't so frustrated by it. She is dyslexic and gets overwhelmed by too much writing. I only had her do about every other problem but at times that seemed too much. She can also get lost in ...

Re: Does anyone use BJU English in place of R&S?
Angela, I bought the bju student book and manual from Christian Liberty Press. I find it meets our needs perfectly. They give instructions on how to teach the writing chapters. I'm sure CLP's manual will not be quite as descriptive and thorough as the BJU TM, but it meets our needs just fine. Angela...

Re: Does anyone use BJU English in place of R&S?
I started using BJU 3rd grade and 4th grade a month ago. The past 2 years we used Rod & Staff 2nd and 3rd grade(I also used R&S 4 and 5th for 1/2 year with my older girls). I LOVE BJU English and my girls do to. They much prefer BJU to Rod and Staff. They like the workbook format and the way the les...

Re: Materials list for each guide?
I would really appreciate any prayers for my headache issues, Ladies, as I've been battling this for over a year now (March '08) and am still trying to find a medication to help prevent them for me that won't cause the side-effects that do me in. Thanks so much!! Charlene, I will keep you in my pra...

Re: OT.. Prayer Request..Please Pray
Rebecca, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I will keep you in my prayers. I have experienced 2 miscarriages in the past year and it's tough to get through. I will pray that God will comfort you in this time of sorrow. It helped me to visualize my babies in heaven in the comfort of our Lord's arms....

Re: Materials list for each guide?
WOW! Tamara did an incredible job! This is above and beyond what I would have done. Her list will be incredibly helpful!
Since I plan on continuing with HOD all throughout my kids grade school years, has she prepared a list for Beyond and Preparing?
Thanks,
Ann

Materials list for each guide?
I will be doing little hands, little hearts and bigger this fall. Has anyone ever compiled a list of materials/supplies needed for each manual? I realize the materials needed are often found in the home, however, after searching through bigger, there are a number of things I don't typically have. Th...

Re: Drawn into the Heart of Reading vs. other reading programs
As far as the stuttering around when reading...my husband just completed a 2 year research project on improving reading fluency in children! Reading the same text over and over while underscoring word with their finger will improve their speed in words per minute and will transfer to other texts as...

Re: New to HOD/Questions before I order
Thankyou ladies for your thorough answers and for your nice welcome! Just to be clear...I can use the emerging readers set from Beyond for my 10 yr dd in Bigger for her extension reading? Because of her age would it be best to go ahead and get "A Child's Story of America" and "Exploring Planet Earth...

New to HOD/Questions before I order
I am so excited to start using HOD with my younger children. I've homeschooled for 11 years. My 4 older ones are in ps  So that leaves me my 5 younger ones to continue teaching. Years ago I used LHTH to teach the preschool class at our co-op. The kids loved it! In my recent search for a science...
