Re: Posting how it's going in the high school guides
I absolutely love the book choices for HOD High School but we have found the guides themselves a bit overwhelming. I'm looking forward to future revisions for my younger dd to, hopefully, make them a bit more concise. In the meantime, we've made extensive use of a highlighter to mark what of each bo...

Re: Dual Enrollment Vs. HOD all the way?
Great post, AnnaZ! I feel the same way. I feel like so much of worldly success has infiltrated a once protected homeschool mindset. That said, I do worry that my dd will enter college without all of the dual enrollment hours that most typical high schoolers will have, but she has been the deciding f...

Re: Principles of Mathematics 1 vs. 2?
Nealewill, Out of curiosity -- and to help me with placement -- how far along did you get in Singapore before switching to Principles of Mathematics 1? Also, you say that each lesson is quite full. We probably spend 20 minutes a day in math now with each Singapore lesson at the 6b level. If it takes...

Re: Principles of Mathematics 1 vs. 2?
Thank you for your response, Carrie! She is in 6th grade working through 6B now. She is a strong math student but I'm not in a hurry to get started with Algebra any earlier than 9th grade. I found with my oldest that Foerster's is quite challenging and maturity matters. ;) I think we will start with...

Principles of Mathematics 1 vs. 2?

Re: What boxes in AH1 are MOST elective?
Thank you for helps. Yes, we have foreign language covered. I'm trying to decide what else can be considered elective.

What boxes in AH1 are MOST elective?
As we get to the second half of high school, I'm needing to be more selective in the electives we have *with* HOD so that my dd can enjoy her personal interests *outside* of HOD. We simply don't have the time to "do it all" with her interests. What is considered truly elective other than the Spanish...

Re: NEED High School Math Advice
STICK with what is working! We tried VT and it was just not a successful choice for us. We came from Singapore so I couldn't really stick with anything. ;) I have heard very good reviews about MUS when used all of the way through. The bad reviews come to play when people jump into it in High School ...

Re: Sneak Peek #3: New US2 High School Guide
I am so excited about this pick! We are one of the many families who have been blessed by Dave Ramsey's ministry. I can't wait to see what advice on money management he has for teens! I shared the topics with dd today as I was reading about it and she said, "Wow! This is great! This is some really p...

World History: Unit 3 We are working at half-pace still as we enter into the new guide. I am very pleased with how well this is going. The history portion this week has centered around Laws (Hebrews vs. Hammurabi's). This allowed for discussion and narration about the contrast between the two. We al...

FullSizeRender.jpg Creation to Christ: Unit 18 This week was full of new books. The new history reader threw G off a bit. Rather than being written with objective details, it has a storyline. I love this very CM history book but G struggled to know how to narrate it. I allowed her to do a copywork ...

World History: We are only two weeks into WH, but L is enjoying the work and loving this year's spine. The Fine Arts study is a big hit. I am very thankful for the inclusion of this elective, which probably wouldn't have been done to the same degree without a scheduled program. We have chosen to wat...

Week in Review (my first try at this)
CTC: We are finishing our 17th week of CtC and The Story of the Ancient World this week. I'm so happy to have read this entire book through with my second child. I wasn't entirely convinced that I loved it until I read it. I have grown in knowledge and she has really enjoyed the stories. IMG_1846.JP...

Re: World Geography books came....Yikes!
Deep breath! I felt the same way! First of all, go slowly and consider doing some summer reading. :) I'm glad we had a few Living Library books under our belt before September started (just a thought and recommendation). It did take us some time to get going with WG. Remember CtC? It was a BIG jump ...

Re: Sneak Peek #1: New US2 History Guide
WOW! I am thrilled with this pick. I love it when something so deep and spiritual is scheduled (that means it actually gets done at my house!). :) I just looked at the sample. I remember hearing about Nietzche in a college philosophy class and struggling through what I was being taught. I am fairly ...
