Re: Need Placement help please!!!
There is a lot of written narration work in CtC. If he is rusty on copy work, I really think Preparing with Extensions would be the best start. Besides, I LOVE PREPARING HEARTS! :D Why not do a little cursive work over the summer so he doesn't feel frustrated starting the year out unprepared? He see...

Re: Any reason to wait to order?
Welcome to this wonderful adventure of homeschooling! I cannot assist you with what initial challenges you may have with pulling your kids out of school but I know many moms who have and they say patience and a schedule are musts. :D Don't try to do too much!! I actually discourage new homeschool mo...

Re: cursive writing?
The only pro/con I can think of is that the History-Drawing Books that are used throughout the guides have dictation passages that are in traditional cursive. Personally, I like the look of italics but went with the Cheerful Cursive book because I didn't want to confuse my children when it came to r...

Re: Something ELSE Homeschooled Kids Don't know :)
I forgot to mention the best part of our Day Camp story. My dd9, who is in Preparing currently where Grandpa's Box provides a wonderful introduction to the battle against good and evil, has been able to give thoughtful narratives. She shared with me that the enemy has all ready lost the battle and s...

Re: Something ELSE Homeschooled Kids Don't know :)
I'll add to the list. My kids are in a nature day camp this week and I have made a list for myself '35 Lessons from Day Camp' ...ie. reasons we should continue to homeschool based on what they've been telling me (for future reference when I'd like to throw in the towel). :) Topics include: vampires,...

Christina,
What math curriculum has he been taught from through 7th grade? That might also give us some insight so that we can better help you.

Re: Singapore Math 6A/6B necessary?
For us, Singapore 6 has been well worth our time. It firmed up all that dd had learned plus dug deeper. I noticed that toward the middle of 6B, dd stopped making those silly mistakes that had worried me throughout Singapore. She got to the point of rarely needing help from the HIG or me for most of ...

Re: Sneak Peek #11: New World History Guide
I'm really excited about these Geometry choices! The text to follow Foerster's Algebra (Geometry: A Guided Inquiry) looks very much logical and meaningful. I am grateful that this set includes worked out solutions since I will need to learn alongside dd for this subject. I'm also thankful for the DV...

Re: New to homeschooling
You can homeschool cheaply but you get what you pay for! :? Having a strong literature-based program and guide like HOD provides is priceless! The only advice I have from looking at your list is to consider buying the Teacher's Guide for Singapore 4A/B if HOD sells them. I don't use them much until ...

Re: Is it enough?
My youngest (now 9) has used HOD since PreK. She is now in Preparing. It starts very gently but really ramps up by late elementary into the middle school years. We have not added anything academically to HOD. We go to the library once or twice a month and check out many books. I don't really see thi...

Re: Singapore Math and finishing guide
We are finishing Singapore 3B this week for youngest dd and we will be using the Math Fact Windows over the summer for +-x/ ...this is when we focused more on speed with oldest dd (who has now completed Singapore K-6B) and she actually won a math competition in the 6th grade for "knowing her facts f...

Julie,
Thank you for that sweet, heartfelt post about work-ethic and what the day looks like for your high schooler! It really encouraged me.
I want my kids to be both hard workers and joyful and I think the two just might go hand in hand.

WOW! What an awesome line-up! I love how you have selected books that appeal to the visual learner as well as resources for the child who loves audios. What a grouping!
Thank you for researching and selecting such uncommon resources!

Re: Sneak Peek #1: New World History Guide
I was able to get my hands on ACE/School of Tomorrow Biology this week and I'm wondering if all of the worksheets that are part of each booklet will be assigned in the guide. Some of the diagrams seem like good exercises but otherwise, I'm a little overwhelmed with all of those fill in the blank pag...
