Re: habit of attention

I do think attention comes with time. Your kids are still pretty young. In Preparing Hearts the child must listen carefully to the history story in order to complete a written narration. If the child listens carefully, they really do not need to go back and re-read the selected passage on their own ...

Re: DS15~juggling job and MTMM.

Dd 13 is finishing up MMtM and also doing 2 foreign language classes, twice a week (that's her "thing" and she loves it). She spends about 1.5-3 hours a day extra either studying or taking the classes. It's been a tough transition this year with the added demands but I'll tell you what has worked fo...

We are a little more than half way through MMtM and our pages are aligning with the Guide.

No problems here.

Re: Finishing SM 6B in 6th grade...

Lora Beth, Basically, you can give Algebra a try in 7th grade but don't get frustrated if it is too abstract for your dc. We finished 6B at the very beginning of 7th and moved over to an Algebra program (and dd was totally confused). I waited almost a full year to try Algebra again. We did a pre-alg...

Re: Substitute Read Alouds

Personally, I would suggest subbing in some of the Extension Readers (that's what we did for fun during Preparing the first time). The Shakespeare Stealer was a huge hit (I did read it aloud) and it is long enough to sub for both books. Unless he's older (middle school age), I probably would stay cl...

Re: Schedule of Resources?

Katie, We are in the middle of MMtM right now and I would strongly advise you to purchase the entire Economy Pkg (as we've used all of those books but two within the first 14 weeks of MMTM). The Economy Pkg (Science) will be a little easier to hodgepodge but your best DEAL would be to buy the set al...

Re: Algebra: Videotext vs. Foerster's

I'll give an end of week update since it seems that there isn't a lot of chatter. :) We gave Foerster's a try this week and it was so smooth. Both dd and I really enjoyed talking through the teaching part of each lesson and she spent less than 20 minutes doing the odd problems. I love how it gives v...

Algebra: Videotext vs. Foerster's

Can we discuss these two options, please? Just when I thought I had made a decision, I am second guessing myself. These are the specific things I'm questioning: Which one is better for the child who is good at math but just wants to check the box? Her interests are outside of the STEM arena but she'...

Re: Skipping Rev to Rev to be on track for High School Guide

I'll just add that if you choose to skip (which I don't think would be a huge problem as long as MMtM isn't an overwhelming jump for your child), you might want to spend a few months reading through George Washington's World (assigned in Rev) and Abe Lincoln's World to avoid major gaps in history co...

Re: Just finished reading all the World Religions books

Lynn, Thank you for your response. That answers my question. I just didn't know how critical it was for understanding when we've never delved into mythology (gladly so) but I think we are at a point where we might read a little Usborne book or the like on some common myths just so dd is made a littl...

Re: Just finished reading all the World Religions books

Lynn, I recently read a review on The Book of Discovery (Synge) where it states that the author uses many myths and classical stories within the lessons. Do you think it might be prudent for me to find a book of myths or classical stories to read through before diving into this book so that my dd mi...

Re: Why and How Long?

Fun question! :D I started using LHTH with my youngest child around 2007-8. My oldest was using a different literature rich curriculum at the time and I had a desire to try something more hands-on with youngest for pre-school. She loved it and I loved it so much that the next year I switched my olde...

Re: Singapore Math Textbook Question

I'm not sure what the official HOD recommendation is but we do ALL of the textbook problems and ALL of the workbook problems. I have a Singapore graduate (through 6B) :) and I'm thankful that we took things slow and steady and completed everything.
