Re: Has your children's faith growen and strengthened?
Angie- Mine love watching AFV, but I have recently started getting annoyed with the language as well. Plus there's videos with children saying things that I don't think are appropriate, and everyone is laughing. We haven't been home in time from church the last several Sunday nights to watch it, and...

Question about watercolor paint
I know that watercolor paint will be required in a future HOD guide for us (I'm thinking CTC?), and I have a couple of sets of nice watercolors that come in tubes. BUT, one of the sets is about 25 years old (from my childhood) and the other set is of unknown age, and I inherited it from my grandpare...

Re: Tomorrow!
Enjoy using Beyond! We are starting Monday, even though it's a holiday, because we don't have any special plans. I'm really excited to get started, and today I'm finishing up all of my organize-the-school-stuff projects.

Re: Will Bigger work well with another Math program?
We are using CLE for math too. If it's working for you, I wouldn't switch. Just sub in what you are doing for whatever is in the math box. (IIRC, once you get to Bigger, there aren't math activities anyway, just a schedule for completing Singapore). I've tried Singapore in the past, and I like it, b...

Re: How important is Handwriting?
I think it's important, but not to the point that you neglect other subjects because of spending so much time on it. It's funny, my oldest (9) has had lots of handwriting practice, starting when she was 3 and was doing preschool workbooks. No matter how many times I showed her the correct way to for...

Re: Should I wait or go ahead???
Thanks for the update! It's great to hear that things are going well. (I know I haven't posted in your threads before, but I have been reading here a lot and only recently started posting more.)

Re: Reddy Fox
Mine love the Burgess books too. :D Mine won't mind stopping after only one chapter for story time (we are starting Beyond on Monday!) since they know that I usually read to them for quite a while at bedtime (from different books). Just tonight I was reading Little Pilgrim's Progress to them and the...

Re: Beyond - need a tame adventure story
My dc LOVED The 21 Balloons. We've read it twice now; first when the oldest three were in 2nd,1st, and preK, and then again when they were near the end of 3rd,2nd, and K. They didn't find it to be scary at all. Mine loved Baby Island too, but I wouldn't recommend it for the really super sensitive si...

Re: Be honest- am I doing my oldest a disservice by combining?
Thanks, Julie. I am super eager to get started, but I have to wait because my oldest two are going to church camp Mon-Thurs. I am going to start LHTH with my 4yo and 2yo on Monday though! My 2yo asks to "do a project" EVERY SINGLE DAY. I've had to tell her "no" for several days now because I'm tryin...

We are back to HOD (starting in a couple of weeks) and your post made me smile. I know that HOD will inspire the play of my children as well, and I'm looking forward to getting started.

Re: How do you organize?
Well, if you are getting ready to move, I don't know that I'd spend a lot of time organizing right now, since you will probably end up changing your set-up once you are in your new home. The main thing would be to make sure all the books you need for the next month or two are available; put those on...

Re: Be honest- am I doing my oldest a disservice by combining?
I just spent a lot of time working on checklists and a daily schedule, and I'm very happy with what I came up with. I am going to stick with my original plan. Now that I see it all on paper, I realize that our days will be full, and it would be hard to add another program. My dc will get their own s...

Oh, and 8arrows, THANK YOU for your post. (Not that I don't appreciate the other responses; I'm just glad to have the reassurance that my original plan is fine!)

Re: Be honest- am I doing my oldest a disservice by combining?
8arrows- You have a good point there, about dh having to listen to the constant flip-flopping! He hears me talk about programs that I'm just sure I'm going to use the following year, but by the time that year comes along, I've decided to do something else. At least I've been consistent with math and...

Re: Be honest- am I doing my oldest a disservice by combining?
I wanted to add a little bit more about my dh and his opinions regarding our schooling. When I asked him about combining vs. separating, it was in a general sense; I didn't go into a lot of detail about HOD or other programs. Although dh is 100% supportive of homeschooling, when I start to talk abou...
