LOVED Preparing!

Our family used Preparing Hearts for His Glory last year with a 3rd, 6th and 7th grader! My now 8th grader said just the other day, "Mom, last year was so fun!" I also fondly remember the wonderful Biblical and historical journey that brought forth many wonderful God-focused discussions! Every singl...

Re: Shakespeare in RTR

I so appreciate and agree with the previous poster! We live in a wonderful homeschool community. My older boys 13 &14 have been reading and performing Shakespeare plays with a group of homeschoolers for the past two years. They are currently on their 3rd play and they LOVE it! If you don't have a gr...

Re: ? About SRA reading system for Carrie or anyone

When it comes to reading and phonics I say use whatever works for your child! This Mama uses SRA. We work between the 100 Easy Lessons (SRA) and the SRA Phonics 1 workbook by McGraw Hill. These are not expensive materials. We work with the 100 Easy lessons schedule that introduces the letter m, a, s...

HOD - The BEST customer service - EVER!

I can't even express to you how much I appreciate HOD in every way, but I really want to share with you how great HOD is in the area of customer service. Last year we used Preparing and LOVED it! This year we moved onto RtR, but my youngest in RtR (9) is still doing level 3 dictation (RtR starts at ...

Thank you for sharing April! My 3 oldest are also doing RtR and we are SO enjoying it! Carrie picks the BEST books! I just don't know what I am going to do when my children grow up and out of HOD! Who am I going to these books too! I too was a bit concerned for my 9 year-old, but with a little...

Re: confused on the IEW (Medieval Writing Lessons) symbols

Christine, I think the idea of this is to keep their outline to as few words as possible and make it sort of a game. Keep it to 3 words, symbols and numbers are "free"... This helps them to keep things simple and writing minimal as they will be doing the "real" writing in their report or paper or pa...

Re: Read most of Boyhood and Beyond last year....

My older 2 read this wonderful book too. I am having them read Created for Work by the same author. My 9 year old will read Boyhood and Beyond aloud. If the older 2 feel inclined to listen in again - as they love it when I read aloud - that will be just fine with me!

Re: Keeping little ones busy?

It is hard to concentrate under chaos! Here are some tips that have worked for me: 1. Schedule some task or specific toy time during the time you are working with your older daughter. 2. Make a big batch of play dough in the morning - this is a huge hit here! Watch out - even my older kids get distr...

Re: Preparing 1st day- Lots of Tears

We have this problem with him in obeying us as well. If I tell him to put his clothes away, he only obeys part of the way. He puts his clothes away in the closet, but not in the right drawers. I saw it as an issue that he needs to read the directions and follow them completely. Might I suggest that...

Re: Hero Tales in Preparing

Could someone please share with me how this is used. Is every story read? Are the stories broken up into short sections to be read aloud, or is it independent reading? I'm considering preparing for next year and I've owned and sold Hero Tales before. I felt like it was too dry and covered some pret...

Re: Our RTR/Bigger Hearts/LHTH Schedule for this year

Thank you so much for posting this! I was trying to figure out how much time I needed per box in RTR in my own pursuit of writing down a schedule so I thought I would pop on this board to see if anyone said anything and - Viola! Right there for me! I think you saved me hours – maybe days of time!

Re: Will RTR offer optional reading selections?

Hello! We are jumping into RTR on Monday so I will try to answer this to the best that I am aware. The basic package can be read aloud OR your child can read it himself. Remember, he or she will be reading all those history books in the economy package. There is a boy/girl book pack for grades 5/6 a...
