Re: Fear the loss of Family time, but we need consistency
What has really worked for our family to keep together with spread out ages and different curriculum happening is to have Bible time. Many times I also set a timer so that we didn’t go for too long and hold up my older kids. We would say a scripture verse together that we were memorizing, review one...

Re: Reviving forums
I agree! I have missed message boards and it’s especially been on my mind lately. I never really connected in Facebook groups like I did on message boards.

Re: Maintaining closeness when running multiple guides
I have found that I like having a morning Bible time meeting with all the kids. I do a few catechism questions, do a oral Bible study such as Proverbs People from Character Concepts and prayer. We usually just do a few questions from the Proverbs book and discuss. This gives me that "together" feeli...

Re: Saxon vs. Singapore Math
I have used both Saxon and Singapore. I use Singapore up through level 5 then switch to Saxon. I switched with 6a for my oldest then my second switched after 5a. For me it was then amount of teaching time needed at those levels with ?singapore. I don't teach saxon but use the Dive CD. Since your boy...

Write with the Best vol1 vs. 2
Is there a big difference between the two volumes? My second son started WWTB vol 1 this year and we didn't like it at all. I ended up subbing a IEW book I had. My oldest is supposed to use WWTB vol 2 next year. But without seeing it Im not sure since I really didn't like vol 1. My oldest did not do...

Re: Do you grade your kids?
I just started grading this year. More for preparing for high school. I do show my kids. I want to teach them that they will be working for scores and will not get perfect grades all the time. This is how the world is set up, giving grades. I don't want them to have panic attacks when they make a C....

Re: Ladies I am totally overwhelmed
Carrie had some great wisdom in her post for all of us. I do have one book that has helped me tremendously with hormone issues, depression and anxiety. It's called The Mood Cure. Now, my issues were not severe. But there were some areas that I was lacking. Also there were some good recommendations o...

Re: How long do you take a break for?
I do what works for our family at the time. Currently I take about a month off in the spring. Then school through summer. We took about a week off after finishing our last years work. The previous school year we had finished by spring. So we took off for our month break then. In your case I would ju...

Re: Reading Help
I also recommend the Reading Lesson. I would consider what motivates her. Reading is hard work. So maybe make a sticker chart. After she reads her 2-4 pages of the Reading Lesson cheerfully she gets a sticker. Never under estimate the power of stickers for little ones. I also give stickers on math w...

Re: Covers came off guides
I haven't either. I have LHTH up to RES. To REF. It may have been a bad batch or something. My cover for RES. To REF looks rough because my son has been very rough with it. I noticed all the ones I had control of the guide look nearly new. Even when I used it 2 times.

Re: You know you have a great curriculum when.....
Yep! I start stalking the board and website. I fill my online cart and then wait till I feel that it's time to purchase. I start comparing prices for some things like math books. FYI HOD has Singapore Math books for less than Rainbow Resource. I am really ready for our usual month long break. But al...

I used washi tape to color code all of mine. It made it easier for my kids to know which ones were their books.

Re: Need Math Help
It was about level 3 when I got really frustrated with Singapore. I bought the Home Instructor guides and they helped a lot. I did not use them to teach out of. But, if I wasn't sure how to start off teaching a concept or I got hung up on something I used it. I think this is what you may be missing....
