Re: The Workbox System - Good for HODies?

We have been doing the workbox system with our HOD for a few weeks and it has been the BEST 2 weeks we have had all year. Oh and we are only on week 5 of HOD so that might have something to do with the greatness too! :D My kids are motivated and so am I! I just whip out my teacher's guide the night ...

Re: Help w/ 1st Grader

Thanks so much with your thoughts, ideas and encouragement. I will just slow down a bit and try to enjoy the peacefullness of HOD! I don't want my kids to suffer just so I can feel like we are accomplishing something! I know that we have time. My kids are adoring their history lessons too! I guess b...

Help w/ 1st Grader

We are starting week 3 in Beyond and LHFHG and we are already way ahead and it's driving me nuts!!! We are way ahead in math and read alouds. We finished our biography-Helen Keller in 1 week, dd just couldn't get enough. Now I'm in between read aloud books and I really want to start another, but I c...

Re: Calling all HOD Texans.....

Hi! We are at Ft. Hood. We just started LHFHG and Beyond just a few weeks ago. I have a 6 1/2 year old dd and 5 year old son. Sounds like Florence might not be far from here?

Blessings,

Re: Can't make up my mind..

Thanks so much for your thoughts and thank you, Julie for the prayers. I've been thinking about it and we just got done with a lot of Bible history in MFW 1st and a lot with Columbus, Pilgrims, etc in Heritage studies I've always done dd by herself so I guess I could go ahead with her in Beyond and ...

Re: Can't make up my mind..

The other option would be to start dd in Beyond next week while also listening in with ds as long as history lessons aren't confusing. This might be ideal for us. I just realized that she may need that. We've gone through MFW 1st grade and she also did BJU 1st grade Heritage studies so she should be...

Can't make up my mind..

So dd will be 7 in August and ds will be 5.5. We are starting LHFHG next week with both kids. I am wondering if I should start Beyond left side(she'll be doing right side starting next week) in the fall--we'll school through most of summer--or if I wait until we are done with all of LHFHG history fi...

Re: What philosophy does HOD fall under?

Thanks, that helps me understand a bit more. I definitely think we're more of a CM type family. I just didn't get why so much discussion was going on over at WTM. The thing I like most is that it is so Christ centered and in the end, that is what matters most to me. I'm not striving to have geniuses...

What philosophy does HOD fall under?

I was just curious as to what homeschooling method/philosophy you would say HOD is? Is it mainly CM, classical, combo? I only ask b/c I see a lot of discussion of it on WTM, but it doesn't seem very classical. What influenced you, Carrie--if you are reading this? If someone ever asks me what method ...

Re: Singapore Earlybird U.S. edition?

So if I need to place dd in primary 2A while doing Beyond, I would need to get the textbook, is that what I'm understanding or are there 2A plans in the appendix? Or I could just buy Bigger and use the plans in there? I guess then I'd be ready for the next year with Bigger and I wouldn't have to als...

Re: Singapore Earlybird U.S. edition?

Hmmm..along the same lines, Primary 1A samples and scope and sequence look too easy for dd(6 1/2). She's beyond most of that. She might be ready to start 1B, is that possible? She is just needing a bit more practice with math facts. 1B actually looks more appropriate for ds--5. He's already memorizi...

Singapore Earlybird U.S. edition?

I was wondering if I could still get the Earlybird US books from HOD or if they are no longer available? I assume the lesson plans correspond with the US edition? I don't know if the new Standards edition will work with the manual? That is all that is available now unless HOD has the other ones in s...

Re: Combining

My son completely fits into the LHFHG category and dd is definitely at Beyond level(she could do it now). I just didn't know if there was a way to modify Beyond for ds. So I think I've pretty much decided that I will do both levels, the question is whether I start now with LHFHG and go through summe...

Re: Combining

OR...I could stop FIAR now as our main curriculum, get LHFHG and start NOW with both kids and then transition into Beyond with dd in the fall, with ds listening in to hers and she'd still be able to listen to his? Is that a crazy plan?

Re: Combining

Thank you so much for your replies. I am getting really excited about using HOD! Blessedx3--my 5 year old is also adopted--Guatemala. Anyway, I'm starting to think that maybe I should go ahead and get LHFHG for some extra guidance with ds. I will just get the manual and not the extra history books(I...
