Re: Small House Homeschooling
I didn't read the other replies, so hopefully I'm not repeating much, but this TOTALLY fits us. We have a smallish house (1200 square feet), and not garage and no basement. I will share what I have found helpful for us! :D 1) stick to the basics. In other words, if you don't need it, you don't need ...

Re: Teaching a 3 year old with a 1 year old around
Yep, I do what others have already mentioned... 1) I also have an ergo carrier that is fantastic to put my little ones in. 2) Put them in a high chair with a snack/activity to occupy them. 3) Include them. My current 2 year old does very well being included and has since she was just over a year old...

Re: I'm new to Heart of Dakota
I think you could really go with either guide, Beyond or Bigger. But again, as the pp have mentioned, check out the placement chart to get a better idea. One thing to consider - if you decide to go with BIgger you could slow the pace down and just go at half speed for a couple months and then work u...

Another little one enters the kingdom!!! :-)
God Bless HOD!!! When my first dd was 3 we started doing LHTH with her. A few months later she started asking "deep" questions and accepted Christ into her heart. I have not started schooling my littlest ones yet, but they do tag along with we do LHFHG with their big sister. Today we were talking ab...

Re: Math woes
No need to feel bad about asking questions!!! We all have questions from time to time... that's why this forum exists!!! :-) Anyway, I think to some degree, yes you just need to trust that Singapore will work. I'm not sure how old your dd is, BUT, I have heard many homeschoolers say that they do NO ...

Re: Math woes
My dd is also having no difficulties with Singapore Math at the moment. We just started the second K book. I am okay with that though!!! Not everything has to be hard or challenging all the time. I can also see where it is giving her a foundation in her thinking skills about math already. As a PP al...

Re: Ideas for a 6yo off-school time
Well, my dd's do have each other to play with, but one thing here that is ALWAYS a hit with them is craft books... especially the ones done by Kumon. My 5 year old loves the "easy craft book" right now, and they also have an advanced craft book, puzzle books, etc. There are also similar books by oth...

Re: How long of a break do you take post-newborn? :)
I'm not really planning to take much of a break. Just a week or two initially, and then for the next week or two I just plan to take things at a more gradual pace. We are only doing LHFHG right now, so it does not take a lot of time and all the girls love it!! :D It will be a great way to still conn...

Re: Question about doing something in between guides
Maybe you could do both at the same time and just stretch them out??? I know the older guides are only scheduled for 4 days a week. Maybe you could do the HOD guide 3 days a week (so it would take slightly longer than a year) and do the other unit study 2 days a week, stretching it out over 2 years....

Bible for a young girl
I would like to get my dd a Bible that is actually a "complete BIble" not a Bible storybook. I was thinking it might also be nice if there was some commentary in it as well. Does anyone have any suggestions on one that would be good for a young girl? Also, I am torn as to "what version" of scripture...

Re: Exciting news for our 2010-11 school year...
What great news!!! I can't share firsthand any experiences using HOD when a new baby arrives (my oldest was 3.5 last time I had a baby), but I imagine that it will be a smooth transition!! I will find out soon enough.

I'm beyond excited too, and we are only on the second guide. We have a long way to go, but I do believe we will be sticking with HOD for the long haul, and I am VERY pleased to see that another guide has been added.

Re: Should we start DITHOR this fall, or...
Thanks everyone! Tricia, your advice was especially helpful. I think I will just have her read for "fun" next year then. Of course, we will talk about what was read as well! Maybe I will have her read some of the lower level books from the "sample book ideas list."

Should we start DITHOR this fall, or...
My dd is 5 right now and blazing through the emerging readers set. We usually do 2-3 days "worth" in a sitting, and she would easily read the entire book in one sitting if I would let her!! We check-out other books from the library at this level of reading... and some even a bit more challenging and...
