Re: Can we talk Science please?
Personally, I'd have him start PAC Integrated Chemistry and Physics but space it out over his 8th and 9th grade year. Then give him 1 credit for Int Chem/Phy on his high school transcript.

Re: Starting HOD - half rate for one/a few weeks?
We've always started school on a Wednesday. That gives me Wed and Thurs to do half a half unit and I can use Friday and the weekend to tweak our schedule as necessary. Then the next week we finish up the unit, spending the rest of our days enjoying the last hoorays of summer (park day with the homes...

Memorize them. You can google Youtube for a song with all 23 of them sung to Jingle Bells. It really "helps". LOL.

Essentials in Writing Teach Citation?
I desperately need to teach my daughter citation. Does Essential in Writing (the one used in the World Geography guide) teach this?

Re: Beyond, and "Indians" (First Nations / Native Peoples)
Can you just explain the origin of the term (the assumption at first that Columbus had landed in Asia) and how the term has changed in meaning (become derogatory in your country) over time? Then you can tell them that because we don't use that word any longer, you are going to substitute "First Nati...

Re: Where do your older kids do school?
My 14yo does the vast majority of her work in her bedroom. We don't have a large house and it is the one place she can be completely alone. My 12yo does his work at the kitchen table because he'd never get it done if I wasn't breathing down his neck.

Wow. I have no advice for you, but I'm sure the other ladies will chime in. I just want to give you a big hug. I can't even imagine how difficult all of this must be for you and your family. (((hugs)))

Re: narration challenges
Maybe she would do better to read the books on her own? My daughter has always done better at narration when SHE reads the book versus when it is read to her.

Re: HOD vs. MFW? Why did you choose HOD?
I'm an eclectic homeschooler. I've used MFW, HOD, Beautiful Feet, Classical methods, and my own plans. What has me returning time and again to HOD for one child or the other is the book selections . They are high interest, age-appropriate, "living", and in line with my educational philosophy & relig...

Re: But Don't All Religions Lead to God?
Thank you, Carrie. I appreciate a heads up on issues like this that will require discussion and am glad you provided the students with the necessary tools (Scripture) to come to a biblical answer. I'm glad you don't shy away from addressing them. These are the kinds of questions our soon-to-be adult...

I think the amazing course descriptions at the beginning of the TM (you can see them online) would satisfy even the toughest homeschool laws.

Wouldn't that make a lovely Christmas present. Hint. Hint. LOL. Seriously though I can't wait to hear how they care going to tackle Biology. I'm probably going to use the World Geography guide next year because my daughter is doing World History this year, but we'll definitely need the guide for the...

Re: stalled
I've got two thoughts. 1) Is the combination of co-op and HOD too much for your kids? What I love about HOD is the 4 day school week. If you are taking your 5th day and doing co-op all day, your kids are not getting much down time. So when co-op stops, it makes sense that they just want to be done. ...
