Re: Please explain about John Calvin and calvanism
Oh, Julie. . .this was such an insightful comment, I just love it. :D If we only studied people with perfect beliefs and unblemished faith - I fear there would be no one left to study (except for our Lord Jesus Christ)! :D In the long run, what is history but the stories of one sinner after another?...

Re: What do you do on Day 5..
All the things we didn't get to on days 1 through 4. Just kidding. Now that I'm using Preparing and the workbox system, we're actually on track and getting Preparing done in 4 days. Now, let me just say that with a 9th grader and a 12yo, I run a 5 day school week. I'll share what I do for day ...

Re: Got my box and have everything ready to start Monday (pics)
Wonderful post! I really enjoyed seeing your learning room. We're really enjoying the workbox system. You'll find it blends so well with HOD. Each HOD box in the manual becomes a box for us, then we toss in our extras. Love the simplicity of it! Your room is great - I'm loving that farmhouse table w...

Re: How I've Organized (link to pics!)
I love it! (We need an applauding emoticon!) That looks wonderful. I like how you've grouped them by genre. The baskets keep everything accessible and I love face-out storage for books - so much easier to flip through! Great job. . .thanks for sharing your ideas. I always pick up a few good ideas wh...

Re: Long break
Breaks are a wonderful thing, but it always amazes me how good it feels to get back to a normal routine. We take the entire month of December off each year, and I love that. But it gives me an entirely new appreciation for January! I just love that "let's get back to work" feeling. It's comforting, ...

Re: Please explain about John Calvin and calvanism
Daisy, this was a great answer: I personally believe we can study and learn from their deep Christian faith and character without having to embrace all of their theology That is so true. Naturally, you'd be curious, Angie, to learn more about Calvin. A simple Google search will turn up quite a bit. ...

Re: A sample day is up
Excellent! I better grab my second cup of coffee before I take a peek!
So excited. You know what? This is the first year that I've thrown out every single homeschooling catalog that has come in the mail without opening any of them. Wow. . .so this is contentment. Loving it!

Re: I'm starting to panic!
I've got good news for you. . .we're all inadequate to our tasks. I agree, God doesn't call the equipped, He equips the called. I certainly never envisioned being a single parent homeschooler (talk about getting looks like you're crazy!) There's no way I would have had the strength to do this for al...

Re: What if....it isn't ready?
That's a great question to ask; a legitimate concern not giving offense at all. I know for myself, this has been an issue with another curriculum provider. They were overwhelmed with orders when they had a jump in popularity and couldn't handle the volume. People weren't getting products in a timely...

Re: General Question about Preparing Hearts and Hearts for Him
Welcome! I just wanted to share a little about how this is working out on a daily basis with my son, age 12. We have completed 3 weeks of Preparing Hearts. My son is also a strong reader, and could do all the reading assignments independently. The key is to remember that not all of the reading assig...

Re: What MATH program do you use with HOD?
When my children were doing k through 3rd grade we used Modern Curriculum Press math. Loved it. The manual's can be purchased cheaply used (I usually found mine for about $10-$12 postage paid) and the workbooks are inexpensive. The teacher's manuals are clear and include mental math, some scripted h...

Re: Using just a few of the extension books-has anyone done this
That wouldn't be a problem at all. I would say just look at the extension reading as a nice extra when the books are right for him. The extensions for Preparing have a separate schedule in the appendix, so you can just pencil that in on your weekly plan only for the books you want to cover. None of ...
