day 2 with HOD, the good, the bad, and the uglee

We are on day 2. The good is my kids are having a blast. The 8 yo flew out of bed this morning wanting to do schoolwork. The 4 yo is of course loving preschool time with mommy. I am happy that this is very do-able for me, we did school from 9-12 and that is 2 kids on 2 programs plus a snack break an...

Re: Handwriting???

my kids all have fine motor issues, we do a lot of practicing on the whiteboard (this is unlined) and writing with the fingers in sand. Those little handwriting strips at the teacher store can help, that way it is there for him to look at. Just keep doing a little every day and giving the correct mo...

Re: Anyone having this issue?

If your child is a very visual child then the lack of pictures may be the problem. You can photocopy the picture of Reddy from the cover or one of the illustrations, laminate and tape him to a popsicle stick. Then yoru son can "act out" along with the story (i.e. make his little Reddy run back and f...

Re: On the subject of planning and scheduling....

I pretty much made my own planner from a hodge podge of resources. I have not found anything computer based that I like but I do have homeschool tracker- which is not bad but I never used it. I like having an actual binder of stuff instead of doing it on the computer. We also have to turn in a portf...

Re: please pray

Thank you, I am feeling better already just knowing that people are praying, the waiting for placement is so hard anyway, it is like being pregnant without a due date. Anyway yes, if anyone wants to see the books I am selling I posted them here: http://sunshineandroses.wordpress.com/2009/07/19/books...

please pray

for us, as I wrote on another thread we are adopting a little boy with CP, and I just had some people out to look at our house and it is going to cost us like $600 or more to build a wheelchair ramp on opur house and I am really discouraged, that is a lot more then we thought but we live on a hill s...

Re: A Little More About my SN daughter and family

Nice to meet you and I am homeschooling my special kiddos as well. My oldest (8) was a 24 weeker preemie and has apraxia of speech and mmr, also he has lung issues and trouble regulating his body temp. He loves to tell stories and be read to, and is an emerging reader himself and learning to tell ti...

Re: My son has autism what do I do now?

I just want to encourage you to go ahead and homeschool him as planned. I have 2 at home with special needs (mmr, FAS, apraxia, dysarthia....) and a 6 yo with cerebral palsy who will be joining us in a couple months. Having structure/schedule make sthings easier for me, and writing out goals is a bi...

Re: How To Handle Heavy/Violent Content With A Young One

I myself am very sensitive to violent and or torture, I cannot watch many movies because such images just stay with me, and my dh screens movies for me to let me know if they are too violent/scary for me. What I have done when I want to read a book but the pictures are too much is I put a piece of p...

Re: activities for 3 yo

file folder games, play dough, a small box with scissors and old greeting cards to cut up, I like to give my 4 yo a wet washcloth and tell him to wash walls- he loves it, lol. He also likes to dust so a feather duster is another good one. Also if you have a pet (or even a stuffed animal) that she co...

Re: Does the workbox system....

Although I am new to workboxes and to HOD I would like to chime in on this. One of the reasons I was originally attracted to HOD was because the manuals were so laid out for you, I am not an organized person and left to my own devices it is hard for me to get things done. I also was attracted to wor...
