Re: Looking for FUN Back to School ideas
I have cut outs from the school storr that say 'welcome to' and then I put their grade. I also write something on the chalk board, then each of their names and grade. I set down all their new supplies at their spot with a note. We do a special breakfast. That's about it.

Looks great Carrie! I know it must have been so hard to go back to the drawing board, but, this looks like a great selection.

Re: My kids HATE Robert Frost, and he's my FAVORITE!
Robert Frost is my favourite too! But, I studied him in highschool. My kids don't care for poetry. Neither did I as a child. Perhaps they will later.

Re: A 2nd grader in Bigger?
If she can handle it and since you bought it, go ahead and use it. You may have to slow down. CTC at 9 was way too much for my very bright, very good reader son. It was the volume of writing up there. If I could could start him over again, I would have slowed down and not pushed him so much just bec...

Re: New to HoD -- Questions about Placement/Combining
Can I ask why they need to be challenged so much? HOD is a solid, rigourous curriculum. Doing Preparing in 4th grade and RTR in 6th means they finish the last guide in 12th. If they are finishing the day early because it's not challenging enough, they could I some extra stuff. If you go too high and...

Re: New to HoD -- Questions about Placement/Combining
I would not put your DD in RTR. Combined in Preparing with extensions for your son was my first thought. I would never recommend using a guide with a child under the recommended age. Even with CTC, it requires a lot of writing. If your DD isn't prepared for a lot of writing, it'll be too much. I was...

Re: New Homeschooling Mom
Have you had a chance to look to the placement chart? I'd possibly consider going with the lower one, if he places between the two, since many of the skills would probably be new to him.

Re: Which level book pack?
You're right Rice. We just pulled out book pack 3. She liked Catwings. It was ok, but we quit at the end of the first page. It's about half way through the book pack if I organize them from easiest to hardest. Granted the type was small and she didn't have her glasses. But, I think we'll just keep r...

Which level book pack?
We finsihed ERs several months ago. We've done about 4 books from level 2. I planned on keeping her reading over the summer and do level 3 in the fall. She's been a struggling reader. She'll be 10 late this year. She's had a huge jump in her reading lately. She's reading novels from the library and ...

Maybe this thread will help? I'd probably choose which algebra you want, then buy their prealgebra. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=13789
