Re: Average Mom
I have no postsecondary what so ever! I'm not worried! The beautiful thing about HOD is how independent it is. Once they've come up in HOD, they'll have all the skills and knowledge they need at those higher grades. They'll be fine! And you'll learn more too. I just taught Rod and Staff English 3 an...

Re: World Geography Summary Page
Me too! I'd love a PDF link to be emailed out when you purchase the TM. Even better if they could get permission from the authors of other books we are suppose to copy from and all pages that need to be copied are included.

Re: Need HS Portfolio Building Advice From Experienced Moms
I'm in Canada, but every university I've looked into is asking for a portfolio showcasing their work. I'm more thinking 2-3 of their best pieces from each course. We have 30 credits here. So, that's 60-90 pieces. A focus will be thier writing assignments as writing is a critical part of their educat...

Re: Getting Ready to Start up again
September 8th. My youngest DD finished the end of May, so it's been a BIG break. I have kids in school too, so trying to homeschool with them still home wouldn't work. Excited to be brining my oldest home for highschool. First time teaching highschool. So excited!

Re: Switching to HOD halfway through high school
What about World Geography for 11th and then doing a combination of th guides? Use the modern US history to get your English, science (unless you need chemistry), economics/finance and aplologetics. Then use Early American for Government and constitutional literacy. And to make things more complicat...

Re: Readiness for Emerging Readers?
I haven't used TRL, how many lessons are after 18? There's no phonics instruction in Beyond. I'm guessing they are suppose to kinda get it from the books? Idk. Maybe someone who's used TRL will come along with advice. I'm thinking she should probably finish the reading lesson first. If she's at a K ...

Re: Preparing - Noah's Ark
The true story of Noah's Ark should still be scheduled, maybe look a few more pages? Noah's Ark, Noah's Flood , is an out of print book. It's been removed from newer guides. You must have an older one? I bought my guide just as it had gone OOP, so it was still scheduled. I was able to find one on Am...

Re: Considering, questions
Preparing starts with some independent work. CTC has even more. From there, the independence just grows and grows. Running several of the older guides doesn't actually mean that much extra work for you, thougj, I suspect you could combine a few places, especially with extensions.

Re: Is dictation enough for my struggling speller?
Oh Carrie, I truly do wish I could let go. But, my DD is a horrible speller. She has VPD and APD. I like what we use because when she makes mistake, I'm able to remind her of the rule. It's been. Very slow road, but there's progress. I can see how dictation would help as I don't think she's pulling ...

Re: What to do for upcoming 9th grader
You absolutely can tweak it. But, you'll miss skills Carrie built in. You won't have the ease of a fully planned day. Your child won't have the ease of just opening the guide and doing what's written. There's so many wonderful things about HOD. I'd hate to see you miss it because it's not exactly wh...

Re: Is dictation enough for my struggling speller?
My daughter has visual perception and auditory processing issues. Visual, we had an assessment with a vision therapist. Auditory, the Dr referred her to the auditory clinic at a hospital.
