We used Sunbutter when my son did it years ago and it worked perfectly! :)

Re: Do I need a schoolroom with HOD?

We school in our living room, dining room and kitchen. Our books/school supplies are housed in ikea cabinets and shelves along a wall in our living room and a wall in our dining room. Reading is usually done on the couch while math, writing, etc is done at the dining room table. We have a bar in our...

Re: Achievement Tests

This is the first year we decided to test our oldest two kiddos (9&6yo). I chose to use the Iowa tests since I was familiar with those during my teaching days years ago. We just received their results last week and I was VERY pleased...We've used HOD the past 4 years. :)

Re: Can I get any tips on "Vocabulary" in Bigger?

My son wasn't fond of his vocabulary cards either, he was also distracted using the dictionary. He would just start reading any word and off on a rabbit trail he'd go. :) We switched to using the dictionary app on our iPad. That made it a lot more time efficient for him to look up words. I also had ...

Re: Math Quesrion: I'm worried I have messed up!

I will echo a few others... You haven't messed your kids up. We have used Singapore the past four years and I am very pleased with it. I definitely echo the pp who suggested taking the placement tests. I wouldn't fret about the number on the front of the book. it is just a level. :D You want ...

Re: Reading Struggles or Not

The first time I picked up 100 Easy Lessons years ago I disliked it. However, I finally bought it our first year of HSing and have used it successfully with my oldest two kiddos over the past few years. They both finished it reading at a second grade level. We follow it up going through the l...

Re: Week In Review: Jan. 14-18

We had a great week! We also implemented an idea we saw on HOD's Facebook page the other week...having our kids do their own laundry. This was our second week doing it and it has made a HUGE difference! Their rooms are neater...having a basket in their room catches the laundry better than the laundr...

Re: Buy Books or Use Library??

We use the library for our Storytime books in Beyond and Bigger. I like to read the descriptions in the back of the guide and choose one I think that child will enjoy. We discovered Snow Treasure this way and my ds LOVED it! :)

Re: New to Homeschool looking for input

Hi and welcome to HOD! As the pp mentioned, look at the placement chart on the website or when you receive your catalog. It is a great tool for placing your kids. Once they are placed properly, HOD is simple to run. :) For your youngest, based on what you told us, I would suggest Beyond with Emergin...

Re: Singapore Math question

We use the US Edition as it goes with the textbook/workbooks HOD sells. No, HOD doesn't sell the Home Instructor's guides. :( I bought mine from a popular homeschool retailer online. The Bigger guide contains hands-on activities for 2a & 2b, but they aren't daily. We use the Home Instructors guides ...

Re: Singapore Math question

My ds is in 3A and I personally like the Home Instructor's guides. I like the suggestions given for activities & games to introduce and review concepts. My ds LOVES doing them and having the guide keeps me from having to design my own. I'm sure they aren't for everyone, but they work well for us. :)

Re: Catalog is here and

Yes, I do. :) My ds saw it laying on the table over lunch and began looking at all the guides we've done and the guides he has yet to do. He also noticed the army poster on the front and said, "That's cool!"
