Re: Question for LynnH

I have tried various ones for various things, but there are a few I have used the most. These are for the Ipad. I use Scanner Pro to take a picture of a box on the notebooking pages and I make sure I set the size of the scan to the same size as the box on the notebooking page. I then import it into ...

Re: Composition question

EIW covers it in I believe the World History guide. It may also be covered in Rod and Staff, but we used a different grammar so I'm not sure about that.

Re: SAT/ACT

I would definitely prep. The days of going into these tests cold are over. They test the ability to catch tricks in the questions as much as they do knowledge. The ACT and the SAT are very different from each other so do some research online to figure out which one might fit your dc best. Taking the...

Re: Ready for CTC?

Does your son type? I think you know my son has dysgraphia and he has used all levels of HOD from Preparing to US2. He types most things such as written narrations and writing assignments. He dictates things that are in workbooks that require longer answers. You could also look into the various spee...

Re: Posting how it's going in the high school guides

My son, like Julie's son is using US2 for his senior year. I used to blog about his week, but he is now 18 so out of respect for his privacy as an adult I am no longer doing that. I will say that he is really enjoying this year! It is a slightly lighter load for him(we aren't doing foreign language ...

Re: WG Fallacies

I made it thru many weeks before I realized they weren't supposed to be graded. It is in the grading guidelines, but since I didn't have a Charlotte Mason education I tend to skim read lol and apparently I missed it. This is what it says for anyone else reading this post. Completion of exercises fro...

Re: WG Fallacies

I think Fallacy Detective is challenging and some of that is the sense of humor. I know my son would get frustrated when the answer was something like none or some humorous answer. One thing I didn't realize until someone pointed it out is that Fallacy Detective is not to be graded. She gets a 100% ...

Re: How to Become a Dynamic Speaker

We did just have one that was supposed to work that didn't and therefore wasn't optional. It was a dramatic presentation of Patrick Henry's speech. I just searched youtube and found one that was good, not sure if it was the one he was supposed to watch or not, but it worked.

Re: World History Literature

The 3 paragraph written narrations for lit are every other week if I am remembering correctly. They are responding to a specific prompt right? I really think it is an important skill, especially if she is going to go to college of any type. My son is dysgraphic and he wasn't thrilled on those days e...

Re: World History Literature

Julie has the lit box as taking 45 minutes. My son would do it in about that amount of time or a little less, but he isn't one to write much in his lit journal. He is precise and to the point :) . You are right in not getting too worried at this point. The first few weeks of a guide are always the l...

Re: World History Literature

The challenge would be finding the correct abridged version of many of the books. Carrie picked the specific versions that she did after reading several versions, so you wouldn't want to use any other version. One thing I did to help my son a bit was if the book had a movie version I would let him w...

Re: WG Freak Out

Yes for the lit you only do the questions that the HOD guide tells you to do. Don't do any extra, that truly would be overkill. Remember BJU was designed for a classroom so there is a lot of busy work. I like that HOD trims it down some. Also don't expect your dc to come up with everything that is i...

Re: WG Freak Out

It really isn't any different than the younger guides as far as the set up and how to use the guide. The only difference is there are more independent boxes. It tells the student when to do what in very specific detail and is written to the student just like previous guides. Maybe you could give mor...

Re: Dual Enrollment Vs. HOD all the way?

My daughter did a few dual enrollment classes her senior year of high school. She took 2 classes each semester and I still taught all the other subjects. She did it mostly because she was able to do it through the college she knew she was going to attend and since she was going to be a dual major it...
