Re: Sneak Peek #7: New US2 History Guide
Thank you Carrie for all the thought and prayer that goes into these picks. I love that there are some that I haven't heard of. I have found some favorites in each year that were not the typical literature books. I look forward to reading these also.

Re: Quick Question about pacing for English for dd
So do you plan on having her doing the high school WG guide in 8th grade? If so then yes I would do all of the 6th grade book.

Re: Question about using RTR.
I don't know if any of this applies or not, but I will throw it out there in case it does. Sometimes reluctant writers are afraid of failing or messing up, or they get used to us stepping in and helping them. How much help are you giving on the written narrations? If at this point you are giving a l...

Re: Soon to be starting high school and need encouragement
You can do this! Having everything scheduled out like Carrie does is a huge help. As far as the grading my one advice is don't over think it and don't over grade. For many of the assignments Carrie has it where they get full credit if they follow directions and do what is expected. Go with that and ...

Re: BJU Lit CD
The CD is not used. A lot of the busy work is left out. It is basically reading and answering the questions at the end of each story.

Re: Help! I've got to change something, but what?
I don't know that slowing down your ODS and putting them both in Preparing is going to solve your issues. It seems like maybe your ODS is a little bored, if he places solidly in CTC. It could also be that as his work gets more challenging he avoids it by getting distracted by the work his brother is...

Re: Question about using RTR.
Is it the physical act of writing he struggles with or the just formulating his thoughts and getting them down on paper?

Re: Sneak Peek #6: New US2 History Guide
This looks fascinating! My son will probably have to do something different for science his senior year that will relate to his post high school path, but I am seriously considering getting this and doing it myself. My dh works with geologists that come at things from a non-christian viewpoint so I ...

Re: Do we need Storytime and DITHOR?
They really do serve different purposes and work on different skills. DITHOR should be books at or slightly below their reading level since they are doing the reading. When you read something yourself and then have to do follow up activities that takes a different part of your brain then when you li...

New appreciation for high school lit plans
My son will start the AH1 guide in the fall after doing all the guides since Preparing. I always read the lit books ahead of time because I enjoy reading them, and since he can struggle at times with reading comprehension it helps me to guide him if needed. Currently I am reading through the AH1 boo...

Re: Exploration Education Physical Science Kit
I think it is reasonable for them to work on the projects together as long as they get along well enough to do that. I often acted as an extra pair of hands for my ds when he built the projects. On the days they do experiments with what they have made you could have them do those separately. It woul...

Re: Rooted and Grounded Bible Study
It is a challenging study, but I think it is appropriate for 9th grade. The challenge isn't in the amount of reading, but in the deep thought the questions require. Carrie breaks it up into very manageable pieces. In my opinion the key to this study is to not expect your student to answer exactly li...

Re: Math for Algebra, Geometry, Alg II, etc
I have not used either, but I have looked at both quite a bit. My understanding from the CTC website and other reviews of it that for upper math levels above grade 8 they don't recommend it as a full curriculum, only as a supplement. Mathhelp.com is a full curriculum in the upper levels. The other t...

Re: Not finishing guide in HS ....what to do?
So is there a way you can combine the history of the 2 guides and call it something that would be High School credit worthy? Although if you are continuing on with HOD to higher level guides I really don't think I would stop mid way. I think the skill building is important to be able to handle the n...

Re: Not finishing guide in HS ....what to do?
Were either one of them doing one of the high school guides or were they doing the lower guides? That might make a difference in what I would recommend. The one that finished the one guide and then did half of the second was this 9th grade?
