Re: A question about Science in Preparing
I am a Physical Therapist so I had tons of traditional science growing up and I can tell you that the science in Preparing, CTC, RTR,REV to REV and MTMM is much more interesting and engaging than textbook science. The dc aren't just learning a bunch of random facts and dates that don't really connec...

Re: Transitioning from Worktexts to HOD (High School)
One thing to consider is if they are college bound you might want them to start working up to assignments that take longer to complete and aren't fill in the blank answers. My dd will be a senior in college next year and she did an eclectic textbook approach to high school and was able to get her da...

Re: Transitioning from Worktexts to HOD (High School)
First thing to do is to really check the placement chart and make sure they place in the high school guides. What guide or guides are you looking at? I would pay close attention to the writing. The high school guides are pretty intense as far as amount of writing so if they have been using work text...

Re: Question for high school moms-foreign language
It depends on the college. Most do not accept it as a foreign language, but some will.

Re: What to call MTMM history on High school transcript?
I didn't use it for high school, but I think some of it depends on what other guides your highschooler is going to complete. You could call it modern American History, but that doesn't quite capture it because it includes World History also. You could call it Modern World History if you aren't going...

Re: Picture study, foreign language, classical music...?
CTC has watercolor painting that goes along with the poetry study, RTR(the next guide) includes a picture study since that goes well with the time period being studied, Rev to Rev includes a year long composer study and they make a fantastic lap book, and MTMM includes nature journaling. Foreign lan...

Re: Question for those who have used the AH1 guide
Thanks Julie, that helps. I like the idea of underlining the specific directions for each narration for the first month or so. I'm not as worried about the oral narrations as I am the written. Writing 3-5 paragraphs can be a little overwhelming to him with new material and especially the new types o...

Question for those who have used the AH1 guide
I have to say I am enjoying reading America: The Last Best Hope. I feel like it gives balanced coverage to history, especially on some of the tougher topics. I am learning a lot. One thing I was wondering though is how students that have done this guide did with written narrations on this text. It s...

For each guide that uses Map Trek that guide has it's own Map Trek CD that is specially made for HOD with the exact figures that are needed for that specific guide.

Re: Shakespeare Argh!
I didn't do it with my son when he was in RTR. I knew it would just frustrate him. We waited until he did the high school World History guide and he did Julius Caesar. Carrie schedules a great version of it that has a modern version side by side with the original. I also had my son watch the movie w...

Re: Another praise for HOD regarding dyslexic son and testin
Wow what a testament to you, your son, and HOD, for helping your son learn how to accommodate for his dyslexia. The fact that his reading comprehension is that high is amazing. You should be very pleased. I know it is hard to see the other score so low, but the fact that he has to listen and then fi...

This looks great Carrie! I am so glad this will be part of his senior year. If we aren't using Rod and Staff would that mean we would need to add some composition to the English?

Re: Science questions
Did you do the advanced Exploration Education this year for high school credit? The IPC in the WG guide is more detailed information and requires more math as well as has pretty challenging experiments, however if you already gave her a Physical Science credit this year then you should do something ...

Re: diff way to fill out Signers cards-RevtoRev
Since you have an Ipad there are many apps you can use. This year my son had notebook pages that had more questions and didn't work as well for typing so I used the Scanner Pro app to scan it in and then there are a few different apps you can use to open it and type right onto it. The one that worke...

Re: frustrations with Spanish
The Lifepac Spanish is very challenging even for a high schooler. I can't imagine a 6th grader trying to do it. I know there are many spanish programs for younger kids, I would probably check out some of those. We used Duolingo last summer just to keep Spanish in his brain.
