A few questions about Reading Made Easy
Can you tell me a little about Reading Made Easy? I tried to do a search but I guess the words are too common and nothing came up. :? Would this program work well with a wiggle worm? Once completed would the Emerging Readers set be next? Do you supplement with readers (ie Bob Books or something simi...

Re: Can I do Bigger after Preparing?
Thanks for your thoughts Carrie. I would plan on doing Preparing with my younger daughter after Bigger as she has not done it yet. I know it isn't ideal but based on my circumstances I don't know of any other way. God has a plan for us so I will look to Him to get us through what will most likely be...

Re: Anyone else here use Starwrite?
I use StartWrite all the time too. We love it. It is so easy to throw together a handwriting page when you see something that needs to be worked on!

Can I do Bigger after Preparing?
I chose to do Preparing w/my 3rd grader this year b/c we moved to Australia just after the new year and I thought it appropriate to put our American history plans on hold until after we did some world history. We will be finishing Preparing in the fall and I really want to do Bigger. I hate to skip ...

Re: Singapore manipulatives??
Hi Monica, I have been using Singapore Math for quite a few years exclusively with my oldest. She is now in 3A. I have to say that we have rarely used manipulatives. I will occassionally borrow her sister's (from another math program) just to mix it up but I don't think they are necessary. Now of co...

Re: How old are your kids that are using Preparing?
My dd just turned 9 and is in 3rd grade. We are finising week 3 of Preparing. Preparing has been a little bit of a struggle for her because of the independent work required but she is rising to the task! It was tough at first so I helped her along but she is now doing most of the independent assignm...

Re: What do your kids do when they are not homeschooling?
When the weather was nice, we went to the park at least 3x a week. Some friends and I started a preschool group for homeschoolers and had activities for our preschoolers. The "big kids" were helpers and helped organize the activities. This was great fun for all of us and my girls loved helping out. ...

Re: Conundrum with my 11 yo in Preparing
I will probably be the only one who gives you this answer :) but if he is really enjoying working with his brothers, why can't he? Maybe you can throw in some readers for him at his own level and allow him to continue w/his brothers? My oldest is the same way, she is 9 but does not want to miss out ...

Re: Not sure whether to go w/Level 2 or 3 readers
Thank you Darci. I do want her to enjoy reading. I really struggle in this department b/c it is so hard sometimes to choose good readers and determine if the level is appropriate. I am so grateful to Carrie for creating a reading list and grouping it by level. Honestly, the thought of doing this mys...

Re: Not sure whether to go w/Level 2 or 3 readers
Thank you Carrie. I promised dd that we would sit down together once I figured out which level to put her in and let her help me choose the books. She is excited about having a say in the process.
We are looking forward to getting started!!

Re: Questions about Emerging Reader & implementing
I have my girls read out loud to me and then I ask questions after they are finished. As far as reading ahead, my kids rarely ask me to do this :( but when they have I usually do. My oldest will occassionally get really into a read-aloud and I tell her that once we are finished with all of our schoo...

Not sure whether to go w/Level 2 or 3 readers
I am trying to decide which book pack to go with - Level 2 or 3 for my 9 yo dd. Do I want her to be "challenged" or do I want her to be comfortable with her reader? She is finishing up another reading program and is reading books like Third Grade Detectives, Tippy Lemmey, Tornado, Viking Adventure. ...

Re: repeating a program? (LHFHG)
There is no reason for you not to repeat LHFHG again. When my dd was 4 we did a program (it wasn't HOD) and I knew she wasn't ready for the next level so we re-did the entire program again for her K year. I am not sure she even noticed it was EXACTLY the same as we had done the year before. Young ch...

Re: What books do I need to start Singapore halfway through?
I have been using Singapore Math since the beginning w/my kiddos and honestly have never used the instructor's manual. We are on 3A this year. I have honestly never felt I needed it. I would say you only need the workbook and textbook.
