Carrie: Coming to TX again?
Carrie, I was just curious if you are planning to come to Arlington again this year? I haven't been able to make it there for the last few years and right now that weekend is free. At the same time though, I know how difficult it is to get into a THSC convention as a vendor. I am really hoping to pu...

Re: Timelines: help! (Bigger and Beyond)
I just finished drawing out the timeline for my son who is starting Bigger on Monday. I taped an 11 x 17 piece of paper inside a file folder. Along the 11" side of the paper I drew horizontal lines every 0.9", which allowed for 12 equal rows. Along the 17" side of the paper I drew vertical lines eve...

Re: A Child's History of the World
I was given my copy that I have been using and it is an older edition as well. It was pretty easy to figure out where to start by reading the discussion questions/summary. It pretty much goes chapter by chapter through the book.

Re: Common Place Book?
Thanks for the input ladies! We will keep going until we finish. I hate to waste paper. ;-) I LOVE the idea of having my own common place book! I just went and found me a pretty purple journal and will begin recording my favorite quotes and ideas. I am even thinking about putting in a section specif...

Common Place Book?
We are finishing PHFHG and getting ready to begin CTC. For those of you who have done this, do you begin a new Common Place Book or continue with the old one? We used a pretty composition book that my dd picked out, and we are nowhere near filling it up. I thought it would be neat to have the verses...

Re: The good and the bad about HOD :)
Sara, It sounds like you have made a great choice for your dd! The more she wants the easier it will be on you as her teacher. There won't be nearly as many fights getting to the school table! ;-) My daughter sounds a lot like yours. We started out using HOD and have been extremely blessed by the pr...

Preparing Timeline
We are about halfway through Preparing and I think we are messing up the timeline. Here's the story. We tried putting it on the back of my dd's bedroom door, but since it is paneled, we had issues with some of the cards sticking into the routed grooves. So, I bought poster board for her to attach th...

Doing LHFHG for a 2nd time
I am so excited that we are getting ready to start LHFHG for the second time! I am a bit nervous about doing both BHFHG and LHFHG at the same time. I am afraid I will go hoarse or need to get a stronger prescription for my reading glasses. :D I do have a quick inquiry for those of you who have used ...

Hi Tracy! I am glad to see you are asking your questions here. These ladies are so knowledgeable! I don't have anything else to share that I haven't already shared. I just wanted to pop in and say hi!

Re: Do we need to master counting by 5's in Earlybird?
You don't need to worry about mastery of this topic in EB math. It will come up again in other levels. My dc have done well with skip counting songs and that has helped them to remember how to do it, although we do have to "sing" the song. There are many different options out there so you can check ...

Re: Skill level difference between Beyond & Bigger
I was concerned with this very thing! We are finishing up Beyond now and getting ready to start Bigger in a couple of months with my dd who is on the young side of the age ranges. We have struggled through copywork this year in Beyond. She just doesn't like to be told what to write and it has taken ...

Re: what would be better?
I feel a bit funny jumping into history with American History. But, then again, American History is just so interesting and I have BIG reservations about teaching Ancient History to littlies anyway (the way it's presented in Little Hearts is an exception). It has been a year since we have worked on...

Re: Disappointed with Singapore's introduction to long division
Monique, While I don't have a child at the 5th grade level of math just yet, my niece is there. I went to a convention in my state earlier this month and was looking at math programs for my sister to use with my niece. My sister doesn't feel she was "good" at math and I have taken more than my share...

Re: bumping up Math for 6 yo
We have had your same experience. I ordered the EB 2A/2B without really looking at them and when we worked on them, they were as easy as they looked for my dd. We worked through them at a bit of a faster pace for LHFHG, and then about 2/3 of the way through started 1A and finished it up in Beyond. S...
