Re: **Please help me choose!!
Hi! I think you have been given some wonderful suggestion by the ladies here on this board. I just want to share with you my experience with doing MFW (adventures) and my thoughts on HOD. We went with MFW because of it's strong missions emphasis and the idea of multi-level teaching. We switched to H...

Re: What level of HOD should I start with?
Hi! Welcome to HOD! We moved over to HOD last year and we had our best year yet! I am getting excited to start this year. Have you checked out the placement chart yet? I used/am using Beyond with my now 7 year old dd. We started it when she was six/first grade level. I would advise you to look at th...

Re: How much time preparing/ hrs of school?
Hi Stacey!
There are some wonderful ladies on this board and they also chime in with some great advice!
(I sent you a pm in response--did you get it? I haven't done anything like that so I was just wondering if I did it 'right'!)
Have a day full of blessings!

thanks HOD
We are on a summer break and both of my daughters have said they wish they could be doing school! this has never happened before and I believe it is because we switched to HOD last year. I am much more relaxed and confident as a 'teacher' and the lessons are just long enough that they whet the girls...

Re: Written Narration
The Preparing manual does a great and thorough job of teaching kids (and moms!) how to do written narrations. I especially like how Carrie includes sentence starters ...that really helped get the written narration flowing. We also answered the questions from the day 4 box of preparing by writing the...

Re: Anyone attending NICHE?
that sounds great! There is another lady in my group driving down that uses HOD so I will try and bring her at 2! Carrie and Julie--hopefully the weekend won't be as humid as it can be! I really feel for all of you vendors in the gym--I at least get to go to classrooms that have a/c and cool off! Jess

Re: Homeschooling as my ministry...?
hi Heather! I wanted to chime in and encourage you in this homeschooling journey/ministry. Prior to homeschooling I was also involved in everything there was to be involved in at church--women's ministry, kids, youth, music. I did it all. Plus I had all these great hobbies---making cards, scrapbooki...

Re: DITHOR-breaking up chapters
Hi there! We loved DITHOR! I divided the number of pages by how many days it is to be read (5 or 10 or 15). sometimes it worked to follow the chapters and other times it didn't. I really enjoyed seeing my dd draw out a book and enjoy the suspense of it rather than gobbling it up (like I do, too!) An...

Re: Anyone attending NICHE?
Hi! I haven't really had time to look at the schedule yet, but 2 sounds like a good time. However, I do know what it is like taking a baby to the conference so if 3:30 works better for you, let me know. I am flexible. My name tag will say Jess and I have short, dark hair. Can't wait to meet you! jess

Re: Switching to HOD
Hi, I chose to use Preparing with our oldest daughter and we used DITHOR as well this year. I chose to do the level 2/3 student book and level 3 book package. My daughter is a strong reader, above her age level and zooms through books so it was a little difficult to put her in the level 2/3 student ...

Re: DITHOR question
Hi, We are using DITHOR this year and we love it! I purchased the 2/3 level student book, but the level 3 book pack. (there are two separate book packages--level 2 and level 3). Conveniently with the books was a 'reading schedule'--what I mean, is that it indicated which book was for each genre and ...

Re: Really need some advice!
Hi, Welcome! Oh--those best laid plans--I had one. I was going to teach my two older girls together for everything except math, reading, and writing........BUT now I am not. that was a hard dream to let go of. I am so glad I did though! My younger one (7) is thriving having her own stuff right at he...

Re: Combining 1st and 4th grader?
Hi Dawn, Welcome to the boards! Your post grabbed my attention because the ages of your two oldest match mine (only I have girls) and thought I would share what we do. I am actually doing both Beyond and Preparing (no extensions). I don't find the independent reading(I have never really timed it, bu...
