Re: Thinking of combining 5th/7th grader into CtC & burnout
CTC is very difficult to combine. We tried to this year, and some of it is going fine, but there's is so much tweaking that is hasn't been worth it. If you want hod to work for your family, then you have to get to the point where each kid would do there own guide starting in CTC. Combining before t...

Re: Thinking of combining 5th/7th grader into CtC & burnout
Just continuing from last post, there's a reason why I would need to be heavily involved teaching these two together. She would need me there to make sure they stay on task, and my oldest son just needs a lot of hand holding. I'm honestly not sure if any of the guide would be appropriate for them to...

Re: Thinking of combining 5th/7th grader into CtC & burnout
What is the 5th grader doing this year? Do you think she will be able to handle the reading and writing in CtC? My 5th grader is currently using ACE for Social Studies and Science, CLE for Math, LA, & Reading, and BJU for English. While she's typically developing, she has a very short attention spa...

Thinking of combining 5th/7th grader into CtC & burnout
I used CtC with my oldest during her 5th grade year, and she loved it. But she is a very strong reader and very independent. This year, I was going to have my oldest son do it, but it was a flop for him--too much reading, and there's simply no way he could have done any of it independently. He's hig...

Re: Fitting in multiple levels?
I think I will do that! And the really cool part is that then I don't have to buy anything. I can even go ahead and have her start the guide now to see how she does.
Thanks again for the feedback, everyone.

Re: Fitting in multiple levels?
Thanks again for the feedback, this is all very, very helpful. My rising 4th grader will be 10 on Sept. 2nd, and in our state, the age cut-off for the school year (even for homeschoolers), is August 1st. It was Sept. 15 when she was born and honestly, she needed the extra year to mature. ;) Yes, I'm...

Re: Fitting in multiple levels?
Thanks for your ideas. I'm going with Bigger w/ extensions, because I already have the guide and most of the package. :) I have LHTH, LHFHG, Beyond, Bigger, and CTC. I'm trying to watch our budget, and if we go with Bigger, I only need to purchase the extension books. Also, she needs more instructio...

Fitting in multiple levels?
This upcoming school year, my 8th grader will be doing M2M, my 6th grader CtC, I'm considering putting my 4th grader into Bigger w/ Extensions. My 1st grader needs a solid phonics program and has therapy each day. I also have a preschooler, and a toddler--that's 6 children total. My older two childr...

Student Notebooks that accompany Apologia books?
Has anyone used the student notebooks that accompany the Apologia book?
The Zoology book was my daughter's favorite book this year and I know she wanted to dig deeper.
I see that we're looking at Astronomy for RtR and I'm thinking of getting her the notebook, but will it be too much?

What's the purpose of extension packs?
I'm curious. Are the extension packs so that we can teach a child AND his older sibling in the same manual? Or are the extension packs just to give an older sibling reading material to encourage interest in the theme? Why wouldn't the older sibling use his or her own manual? I'm just wondering what'...

Re: Beefing up Beyond?
Thanks for the input. Oh there's no way he could do very much independently right now. When I mentioned having him read those books aloud, I was referring to letting him read the sections to us (I would be there), since it looks like those are the 4th grade readers from CLP.

Beefing up Beyond?
I'm going to use Beyond for my 2nd and 4th grader. My 4th grader is autistic with some learning issues. He simply isn't ready for Preparing. My 2nd grader will be doing Beyond and I planned to have the two of them work together, but using R&S English 3 and Math at his level. I noticed that the reade...

Starting CtC Monday! Supplies?
We had a change of plans. :) Our CtC materials arrive tomorrow (hopefully) and we plan to start on Monday. My dd is very excited to begin the manual. I only have a small window of time to get to the store to get any supplies needed for the first week or so and I doubt the package will be here by the...

Ordered the economy kit and think I got the wrong one
Well, I picked up the Resurrection to Reformation for my rising 6th grader (11 years old and very independent, strong reader). But here's where I think I messed up: Two of my other children will be in 2nd and 4th grade. The rising 4th grader has high functioning autism/dyslexia, is a weak reader, an...
