Re: dictation in Bigger
The first passage is: Sue has a bird. It can call and sing. king ring wing The child studies the passage which does not need to include the extra words at the bottom if he is not ready for them. Then you take it away and dictate one sentence at a time and have the child repeat the sentence, then wr...

dictation in Bigger
I see on the placement chart that a child beginning Bigger needs to be ready to begin simple dictation. Would someone please give me an example of an early dictation assignment? I'd like to compare it to what my son is currently doing.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Bigger info needed
Thank you so much!
What about the books Hymn's for a Kid's Heart and Little Pillows? Would I need Cheerful Cursive and Rod and Staff English 2 as well?

Bigger info needed
I am seriously considering starting Bigger in the near future. I will not be able to purchase the entire program right away but may be able to swing buying the guide and the books that are used for the early units. Would it be possible to share all titles with me (including extention) used for the f...

Re: Placement question
Teachermom- I have been praying for you and thinking of you since my last post. I still feel in my heart that Bigger Hearts is the right way to go for your ds - but that is a decision best made by you because you know best for your ds. You can completely disregard my opinions here, but I will share...

Asking a difficult to answer question...
I know the new ancients program was just posted, but I also know that some here are familiar with MFW, so I thought I would ask anyway. :) Anyone like to give a comparison of MFW Creation to the Greeks and HOD's new program? Like I said, this may not be possible, but I thought some of you may be fam...

Re: Placement question
TeacherMom - Thanks for sharing your heart here! I can see where you are coming from. I deeply want for you to find contentment and joy in homeschooling. It is a gift you deserve. Sleep deprivation makes anyone feel harried and drained - I can go back in my mind to periods in my life when that desc...

Re: Placement question
Thank you again, Carrie, for taking the time to discuss placement with me. :) I'm dealing with a season of sleep deprivation, so please bear with me if I don't share my thoughts as clearly as I should. If I make the switch to HOD, it will be because I am looking for some hand holding in helping my s...

Re: Placement question
Hi, Carrie! Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with me about placement. :) At this point I don't have clear direction as to which way to proceed in the fall, so any light you can shed on HOD for me will be helpful. Let me begin by saying that my son struggles with writing. He copies up to...

Re: Placement question
Thank you, Leanne and Julie, for your help. :) I'm looking forward to being able to take a good look at Preparing at convention this May. I've been using MFW for the last three years, so the possibility of making a change to HOD is a bit daunting. There are some specific needs that I see in my son, ...

Placement question
I'm here again :) asking a few more questions. I am looking at the program placement chart, specifically at the reading/wring/grammar, mechanics, and usage boxes. It appears that language arts and math skills determine placement. My oldest (turns 9 next month) doesn't fit neatly into any one program...

Re: Tell me as much as you can about Preparing :)
Thank you, Carrie, for the links and for your patience. :) I reread my previous thread, and am happy to say that I am not nearly as frustrated as I was. :) Here are some specific questions: 1. Is CHOW read in its entirety? 2. Are all the readers from the extension package scheduled in the TM? 3. Wil...

Tell me as much as you can about Preparing :)
We are currently using MFW, but I am strongly considering using Preparing next year with a 9 and a 7 year old. I am currently reading through the Egermeier Story Bible with my children, and I am afraid that MFW Creation to the Greeks may feel like too much of a repeat to them since it is primarily a...

Re: How/when does HOD present international cultures?
Thank you, RuthAnn and Carrie, for addressing my concerns regarding the history book. (Please forgive my delay in responding. I was out of town until last night.) I'm going to enjoy looking into the source books used for research for the history book. :) Thank you, RuthAnn, for posting them. Blessin...
