The living library is great, but just too much for my severe dyslexic. Looking at WH, what books from the living library would you consider "must reads?" Which would be okay to drop? Thanks. I need help parring down.

Would you say HOD is more of a CM approach or unit study?
I had an "interesting" discussion with someone regarding the philosophy behind different curricula. While not putting any judgment on either approach, would you say that HOD is more CM-like or unit study-like? What are your reasons for your opinion? Thanks for your thoughts.

Grading advice needed for Geometry: A Guided Inquiry!
Advice needed from anyone using Geometry: A Guided Inquiry w/ Math Without Borders. How are you getting grades? There are no quizzes or tests. There is a review after each section, but they are more like practice questions. My son is loving this program, and I want to stick with it, but I need some ...

Re: Geometry: A Guided Inquiry Help
Are you talking about the .ggb files? I can't open them either. Spent the last hour searching around for a safe way to download an app to open them. I'm scared I'm going to download something malicious. Let me know if you figure it out. Edited to add: If you look on the instruction page, there is a ...

Re: Sharing a praise!
That's wonderful! May I ask a couple of questions as I will need to look into this for my son as well. 1. Did you need to get an IEP for him from the school district in order to qualify? 2. Did you need an official diagnosis? 3. Where did you send the request? Thanks so much! If you wish to pm the d...

Re: Sneak Peek #6: New US2 History Guide
I LOVE this! Actually, I'm not sure what I'll do with my son, but we've lots of time to consider that. However, when I think back to my own high school experience, this is exactly what I chose to do! I was on the honor's track and had signed up for physics. I realized that it was silly for me to tak...

Re: Phonics Question - Dyslexia?
I believe that AAR is loosely OG-based, which is a wonderful way for non-dyslexics to learn as well. Honestly, I would stick with that. Go slowly and maybe add in some ETC workbooks if that is fun for her.

Re: We're back
The advice you have received is just fantastic. I'll throw in my 2 cents as a mom of a severe dyslexic whom I've hsed for the last nine years. As you well know, dyslexia is often characterized by average to exceptionally bright kids who have marked difficulty with phonemic awareness and decoding, sp...

Re: We're back
Welcome back! I remember discussing your decision to take a break and focus on some of those skills. I'm so glad that was a productive time. I wouldn't worry about your oldest getting to the last guide. Lots of moms are making the high school years work well without having gotten through all the gui...

Re: A question about Science in Preparing
Trust Charlotte Mason! My son has done HOD for all his schooling years exactly as written. He is entering the high school guides this year. His understanding of science concepts is strong. The living approach to science by learning about the lives of the scientists adds such dimension to science. Be...

Re: MFW vs. HOD
I have not used MFW, but I will say that HOD has a wonderful missions focus. I think that occurs later in the program than with MFW, but we've read dozens of missionary stories and chapter books. I feel that it is a very strong component.

Re: RES to REF - Science/Weather & Shakespeare
Hi, I didn't use that science option, so I'm no help there. However, I do think the Shakespeare exposure is really important. When my son, who is severely dyslexic, did the Shakespeare study, I had him listen to the Lamb's book online. You can find it free on LibriVox. I didn't have him track along ...
