Re: Itlalics or a Reason for Handwriting???

I use Italics for manuscript and love it. I do not like the cursive however!!! What you may want to consider is doing the same handwriting for both kids, unless one has a problem with handwriting. My sister in law uses A Reason for Handwriting and they love that and she loves the bible aspect and th...

Re: Doing LHFHG for two years when to switch to 1st grade stuff?

Carrie, What did you use with your son that you did LHFHG at half speed for Phonics? I used Abeka with my older one and I think it will be too much for my other son. I can tell that he will get too overwhelmed with Abeka, it's very time consuming, he is a cuddler, he's a perfectionist and he wants t...

Re: Charlotte, NC Co-op

Carrie, You are so right. I have more people tell me that HOD looked simple to do and I disagree with them. It is incredible what you draw out of the kiddo's and how meaty your programs are! Most important it has been a blessing to see how the kiddo's absorb the Christian values and character traits...

Re: Charlotte, NC Co-op

Hello, I am not in the NC area, but I wanted to encourage you that your thought on doing a co-op with someone else for HOD guides is great. I have a friend who does the same guides as I do and we encourage each other and stay on the same track and do co-op once a week. We alternate the teachings and...

Re: Week In Review 3-12-09

We are doing Beyond and had such a blast learning about the Dutch bringing cows to the New World and had fun playing the game where my ds was to watch the cows on the little island and I was to move them away. Of course he was much faster than I was and all the cows stayed nicely where they belonged...

Re: Can we talk about horrible handwriting?

Wal-mart actually sells a writing pad with raised lines, but that did not help my ds of 6 either. His handwriting, mazes, cutting and coloring are slowly improving with lots of encouragement and sometimes constant reminders to pay attention to the lines. One thing that really helped was to use handw...

Re: Carrie: Can't wait to see the Ancients sample week pages!!

If votes are taken I vote YES for C O L O R ! A CD option sounds wonderful as well, what a great idea! Just in case we mess up a page we can redo it! The upside for us is that we will only have to buy 1 per family and the down side is that HOD will only sell 1 per family, but for a good price it mig...

Re: Failing miserably in math!!!

I would also like to encourage you as you are new to homeschooling, that the object is not for our children to go through a program and finish when the publisher thinks they should or in some cases a friends child who is the same age. The object is that they understand the concepts and that it sets ...

Re: What should I do for my 8 year old?

Could someone clarify for me if the dictation passages from Bigger come back in Preparing? We will be in Bigger in the fall and we will be on the 2nd spelling list. We are doing Beyond with the 1st list now and we are finishing phonics.

Dictation vs Spelling

I have a question about the philosophy behind Dictation vs Spelling. Carrie mentioned that she preferred Dictation over Spelling at older grades and I had personally not heard before that one can replace Spelling with Dictation. My son is at the young age of the manuals and he is a great speller, bu...

Re: 3rd grade boys in Bigger

Well, I think the beauty of HOD is, that it's flexible and you can choose what handwriting or copywork you may want to omit if your ds does not like handwriting too much and if it is a struggle for him. My ds is in Beyond and he does not like handwriting so I adapt things for him. I may not have him...
