Re: Educating Myself in Charlotte Mason...How?

One of my all time favorite books for encouragement on CM style and homeschooling is A Pocketful of Pinecones. I also loved the CM Companion book.

Re: State Testing- Results are in!

Congratulations to your dd! sounds like HOD is a perfect fit for her. I also had my DS tested with the IOWA this year. He is 6 and has done LHFHG and BLHFHG- we are starting Bigger in the fall. He also scored almost 100% on the math part and was an overall grade of 2.9... I believe the high math gra...

Re: memorization and singapore?

I was worried about the same thing. I purchased the HIG for Singapore 1A and 1B. It gives a few more reinforcements to each lesson than in the HOD guide. I am not "mathy" but my DS is so I really haven't used the HIG much. My DS does finish his math books ahead of the HOD guide, so this year I use t...

Re: Questions about emerging readers

My started Beyond when my ds was 6. We had done 100 EZ Lessons for phonics, and he wasn't ready for the emerging readers in the fall. I believe we started about December and he has caught up and will finish the emerging readers right on schedule. The progression from the bible to The Courage of Sara...

Re: LHFHG for 1st grade?

Kids develop a lot in 6 months... I looked at Bigger for my son 6 months ago and it seemed like he wouldn't be able to do it in the fall. Looking at it again, I know it will be perfect for him this coming up fall. You could also do LHFHG at 1/2 speed. I plan on using it for my 5 1/2 year old DD this...

Re: 4 Day Schedule for Beyond

We attend a co-op on Fridays so I need to do Beyond in 4 days too. This is what works best for us. One day each week I double up on one subject. On Mondays we do 2 days worth of math, Tuesdays we do 2 days worth of LA's, Wednesday I do 2 days of History and then on Thursday I do Day 5's bible histor...

Re: Little Hearts too easy, but short attention span

HI~ My son craved more science and found the math in LHFHG very easy... we just kept plugging along but added more science books to our regular reading time. I added a lot of the SL Science K and 1 readers. I also just added other hands on math. We played lots of dice and card games. Money and time ...

Re: Singapore Primary Math Home Instructor's Guide???

I believe you can "view" the HIG on CBD or Barnes and Noble. I can't remember which, but after using Singapore for 2 years, I ordered the HIG.
I believe without them you are missing a component of the Singapore Method.
Hope this helps.

Re: Is 1st grade too young for the emerging readers?

My older son learned to read by sight words in PS. We are STILL working on phonics with him and he is 10. It is so important to get the sight word reading mentality broken when they are little rather than waiting until they are older. :( This what happened to me and I still can't sound words out! :...

Re: Is 1st grade too young for the emerging readers?

Thank you for all the advice. I agree I have been pushing him to much. I have put away the Emerging Readers, and giving him ABEKA early readers and some Level 1 and 2 readers from the library. He seems much happier and I am hoping to built up his confidence before moving to harder readers. HOD offer...

Is 1st grade too young for the emerging readers?

My DS turned 6 in July. Last year we finished 100 easy lesson to teach your child to read. He can read but doesn't really seem to be getting how to "sound" things out. He seems to be reading by memorizing the words. He is the kid who knew all his letters and sounds by 2. So I decided to put him in 1...

Re: What to do with 3 year old??

My DD was 3 last year while we were doing LHFHG. I didn't do anything extra with her. If she wanted to join in the activities, she could but mostly it was a little lesson for her to learn to keep herself busy for a little while. It was so cool... about 1/4 of the way through LHFHG she learn to go in...
