Re: This "homeschooled kids" just don't know : )
Two things I've noticed that homeschool kids don't know are lining up in a straight line and holding hands in a group to make a circle. I was teaching a class of 8th graders in a co-op last fall, and I asked them all to make a circle by joining hands and stretching out. They all looked at me like I ...

Re: Roll Call - When are you all starting?
We are starting the week after Labor Day after a family trip to Tybee Island, GA. We are very excited! I told the kids that our trip will be our end of the summer celebration before we settle into our school routine. Everyone of them thought it was a great idea! My oldest ds is starting RTR for 6th ...

Need a link that lists times for RTR boxes
I'm trying to plan out a routine of sorts for our upcoming school year. I was wondering if anyone has a list of the time allotments for the boxes in RTR? Thanks so much!

Re: Do you have to slow down math with 1/2 speed?
I'm not sure about what level you will end up with as you progress thru the guides. I did, however, do Beyond at 1/2 pace with my girls for 1st and 2nd grades. We only did grammar when it was scheduled; meaning we only did it when we were working on that particular side of the plans. Math was an eve...

Re: two sets of readers for Creation to Christ
We are doing CTC as well with my ds. I ordered the boys interest set. Carrie has scheduled the history set and given pages to read each day, but if you choose another set, typically, the storytime genres are based on 20 days of reading. We just divide the book over that time span and read the number...

Beyond is the BOMB!!!
I absolutely love Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory!! I have used it for 2nd grade for my oldest ds and my twin daughters. It is such a gentle curriculum full of wonderful hands-on activities and rich, engaging books. It really was a fun guide, all my kids have enjoyed it thus far. My youngest ds i...

Our thoughts on Preparing
We have used HOD for the past 3 years. My oldest ds started in Beyond for 2nd grade and had some adjustments to make as the teaching approach was different from that used in his private school classrooms in K and 1st grade. We continued with Bigger for 3rd grade, making strides in new skills like na...

Re: How has the Lord showen you what cirriculum to use?
I was reading the posts here and just feeling thankful for a Heavenly Father that truly cares about His children. Speaking to our hearts about what curriculum to use for schooling our children is as personal as it gets. Truly blows the common thought that God is too busy to be bothered by our everyd...

Re: New to HOD....questions getting ready for Beyond
Krista- Welcome to HOD! We are finishing up Beyond in a few weeks with my twin daughters for 2nd grade. I also used it 2 years ago for my oldest son. Beyond is such a gentle curriculum, we so loved it. As far as the reading sets, the Classics set is used for Storytime, where you read to your son. Th...

Re: Fractions in Singapore need help and advice (3B to 4A)
It is covered again in 4A. My ds also had a bit of a time understanding the concept last year, but he did much better with them this year. It didn't seem to go over his head this time around. HTH!

Re: When do most start LHTH?
My youngest ds just turned 4 about a month ago, and we started LHTH about 2 weeks ago. He was asking for "his" school, so I obliged. He loves it! Most days he is raring to go and insisting that I "do his school" first. About once or twice a week, he shows no interest and just wants to spend his day ...
