Re: Timeline in Beyond?
We used an 8 1/2 x11 piece of printer paper. We kept it in a plastic sleeve for protection. We had enough room for each drawing, but if I were doing it again I would use a larger piece of paper.

Re: Math question
Hi. I just wanted to say that this was a question I battled over for a quite awhile. I was use to the drill and kill math programs. I stuck with Singapore, and I am loving the results. My son is 2nd grade and we are in book 2A. He has learned most of his math facts, and any not memorized he can add ...

Re: Reading Level Question
Thank you so much for the suggestions. We will just keep going with the emerging readers, maybe read some of the suggested extras through summer, and begin with the level 2 books next year with Bigger. Thanks again.

Reading Level Question
My son will be in 3rd grade and beginning Bigger next year. We used a different phonics and reading program while doing Beyond (we spread it out for 1st and 2nd). We are now reading the books at the end of the emerging reader set and he has no problem at all. It is not even a challenge. Would that p...

Re: i think this is a great idea
I did something similiar to this. We began Beyond for 1st grade and made it through unit 22. The beginning of this year I started using something else, but decided after about 8 weeks to switch back to HOD. We picked up where we left off with everything, except we used the second grade spelling list...

Re: Concerned..any thoughts?
I have a very active 7 year old boy. Sometimes it seems his eyes glaze over when I read. I just keep reading and sometimes he does only pull one detail from the story, sometimes more. However, I am noticing he using lots of the vocab from the story and will remember details while playing later in th...

Re: School Area
We have a coat closet in our living room that has been converted to the "school closet". A bookshelf inside with tubs and magazine holders hold our books and supplies. My youngest uses our dining room table in the adjacent room and my oldest (highschooler) uses our desk in the living room or the cou...

Re: HOD Spelling?
Just wanted to say that we have used list 1 words and half of the list 2 words (1st and 2nd grade). My son seems to be a very strong speller. I tried something different at the beginning of the year that was more time intensive and switched back to HOD's style after about 6 weeks. He not only does w...

Re: Off topic question..........loose tooth
We do not teach about the tooth fairy either. However, we do let our children put the tooth under their pillow and wake up to see how much money they got. They just know that it is mommy and daddy putting the money there. In my opinion it is just as fun. I think we have always done about a dollar in...

Re: I have checked the charts and I still cannot decide
Hi! My son was six at the beginning of this last year and we began with Beyond. He knew pretty much what you are saying that your daughter knows. He did fine. I did not do the emerging reader set. We just stuck with phonics and the readers that we had. Next year we will be doing Bigger and it also h...

Re: Need Help!!!
Thank you Tamara! I have never homeschooled through the summer or used a literature based curriculum. My older has always used textbooks. This is all new to me! I think we will just kind of finish up slowly throughout the rest of summer and began Bigger in the fall. I guess I just needed to hear som...

Need Help!!!
I began BLHFHG with my six year old son last fall. We completed unit 26 and now we are having our summer break (we are doing a little math and reading here and there to keep up). My question is, would it be better to finish up the remaining units throughout the summer and began Bigger Hearts when we...

Re: Beyond Little Hearts
Thank you Paige and Ann for your answers. I have been adding the extra practice because I too read that the books used alone may not be enough. I ordered the extra practice book for 1st grade and have additional workbooks from the store for 1st grade math. If I feel it is something that needs furthe...

jensmom... Thank you so much for your reply! That is kind of what I am expecting to happen. It seems each day he gets a little quicker and understands more.
