Re: Skip World Geography?
Hello! In thinking through your situation, while we can definitely consider some creative options, it is good to know that often what is required by states for graduation vs. what is required by colleges for entrance differs. So, at HOD we plan for college entrance requirements to make sure students...

Re: HS Literature Analysis
Oh good! I am glad to be of help! Our son, Greyson, just finished the literature in World History about a month ago. He had many books he loved throughout the year. We pray your son will enjoy the literature in World History as well.

Re: To Finish CTC or Bump to Res to Ref
Thanks so much for popping back to share a bit more about your daughter. Deciding whether or not to do medication can be such a difficult choice. We have had that with our son Greyson too. I don't like to have him on Humira; but the alternative was continued ER visits and hospital stays with little ...

Re: HS Literature Analysis
Hello! This is a great question! :D The literature is such a beloved part of World History that I would hate for your child to miss it. The books alone are some of my favorites. I have heard from many families that they love the books too. The way the literature is laid out in the World History guid...

Re: To Finish CTC or Bump to Res to Ref
First off, I think your daughter's written narration for CTC is great! :D You can feel really good about what she has written. Secondly, I am wondering how she is doing in CTC overall. Does she seem to be excelling? Is she being stretched in some areas in CTC? We usually tell moms that you want abou...

Re: How are you all doing?
Ladies, It is great to hear from you! :D We are continuing the "isolated" life here in South Dakota! Blessedly, we are used to being pretty isolated out here, so life is going forward without too many bumps. Our boys are busy with homeschooling each day, and they are still able to go to work at Hear...

How are you all doing?
As the country is in the midst of coronavirus repercussions, I can get worried (especially with our son Greyson, being immunocompromised). Yet, I am so thankful that the Lord is with us always! :D I remind myself that He is never caught unaware, as He is the orchestrater of all things. I take comfor...

Kathleen, Oh my goodness! It is so wonderful to "see" you! :D I cannot believe Grant is in college. Where does the time go? Cole and Shaw are both through high school and in college. Cole will be done this May, and then he will work full-time for Heart of Dakota. :D You are such a busy mama. How fun...

Re: Comparing PHFHG and CtC
Hello, I agree that Preparing Hearts sounds like a great fit for your 4th and 5th graders. If desired, as the year goes on you can move toward having your older child (or even both children) read the history readings silently. Charlotte Mason advocated that kiddos aged 9 on up who can read their mat...

Re: Math help
Sally, Welcome back to HOD! We are glad you are here. :D Is your son struggling with the Abeka his school is currently using for math? Or is that a subject that is going well for him? If he is struggling with the Abeka math in school right now, I wouldn't be too quick to use that program again when ...

Re: Conferences
Stephanie, I wish we were attending conferences this coming year, but we need to wait until we are sure our son Greyson's health will remain stable before we commit to traveling. He is doing much, much better after having his entire colon removed. But, we are doing Humira injections every 2 weeks to...

Re: Organizing HOD Things
Julie, Great thoughts! :D I ended up having to get a narrow bookshelf to put right next to the table where my older boys were working. I really didn't want to to do it, as it made the room a bit more cluttered. However, it was the only way I could truly get their many books and science supplies, etc...

Jessica, How fun that you have one graduating this year! I am so happy to hear that your oldest son did well in his composition class. All those years of writing have paid off for him! :D You can be so proud of him. It's exciting to see how your other kiddos are progressing as well. You are a busy m...
