DITHR book selection and pacing
I want my son to read the Pilgrims Progress and was going to have him read it as Adventure but I know it is an allegory. Is that okay? I am learning this whole literature thing as we go as well. I am kinda embarassed at how much I don't know. None the less... in the pacing. I want him to do the read...

Re: What do you do when...
I have seen and am interested in the workboxes. It makes a lot of sense. But maybe I am just missing a detail or something because I don't have a lot of independent work for them to just move onto. I am still where I need to direct/read with/teach the majority of their subjects. Therefore, lets say ...

What do you do when...
you are working with one child on a subject when another child finishes their "assigned" work and the next thing on tap is done with Mum? What do you have that child do? This scenerio for some reason stumps me and yet I am sure that there is a simple solution that I am just not getting. It happens w...

Bigger Veterans... is this all I need?
I am sooo excited. We just got our BHFHG package and it feels like Christmas in July. Yet ANOTHER perk of Homeschooling. You always get Christmas in July (or August...) Anyhow, I was wondering for you veterans of Bigger if this is an accurate assessment of "extra" things we need to have to get start...

I like the wording of putting it on hold until later. We totally call them Reddy Fox's friends too! That is too funny!
God's Grace to all of you who read this this morning as you live your day for Him with your kiddos by your side~

Ladies... I don't know if it is late and I am emotional but thank you soooo much for all your words and suggestions. I feel so embraced as a HSing Mom like I haven't ever felt before. Emerging Reader not happy....
My son is complaining about all the books! :? He isn't naturally a negative kiddo but I am noticing a pattern in him. He enjoyed the toad books and I had him read Morris the Moose and Harold and the Purple Crayon which he loved. But Wagon Wheels, Buffalo Bill, Amelia Bedilia... he read but didn't li...

Re: Questions about Emerging Reader & implementing
Summer... you hit the nail on the head with the visual and pictures. He is actually a rather proficient reader. But chooses to just look at the pictures and ask a ton of questions about what is this? Why did that? etc. But then isn't motivated enough to READ to get the answer. Therefore, the majorit...

Re: Questions about Emerging Reader & implementing
I like the idea of using reading more as an incentive and "reward" for after the rest of schoolwork is completed.

Re: Foreign Language and HOD
Spanish is high on our priorities as mentioned by Carrie needing to be is important in motivating yourself and kids to actually study it. We found a great KID curriculum for the basics.
