Re: To use or not to use, that is the question.

My 12 yo son is doing the Shakespeare study, and he really enjoys it! I wasn't sure what his response would be, but we are halfway through it, and so far he's liked every play. He and I do read all of them together and discuss them. (There were a couple times he read them on his own, and we even wer...

Re: Do you have trouble thinking like Singapore math?

The Teacher's Guide is different than the Home Instructor's Guide. The Teacher's Guide is designed for teaching a large group of children in a classroom setting, while the Home Instructor's Guide is geared towards a homeschooler working with just one or two children. Hope this helps!

Re: Do you have trouble thinking like Singapore math?

The models using bars that Julie described are introduced in the 3A textbook. So, another possibility would be for you to go ahead and buy the level 3 textbooks now just so you can look at them and gain an understanding of the bar models to help you start thinking in that manner. Then by the time yo...

Re: Certain edition of Child's History of the World for PHFHG?

Thanks Kay! If someone could tell me what's different about it from previous editions, I'd really appreciate that too! If it's just different page numbers, I'm not concerned, but I think I remember reading something about new material but can't remember what it was.

Certain edition of Child's History of the World for PHFHG?

Hi! I think this has been discussed before, but I can't seem to find it. Is there a certain edition of Child's History of the world that is needed for PHFHG? I got a used copy from someone and am hoping it will work. I wasn't sure if there are differences between copyright dates, etc. that would mak...

Re: Singapore Math Help!

The activities that Carrie has included for Singapore 1A/1B in Beyond Little Hearts and 2A/2B in Bigger Hearts are wonderful. If you feel like you would like even more guidance, the Home Instructor's guides published by Sonlight are well-written and helpful. You might be particularly interested in t...

Re: Dictation: How does it work?

Thanks for clarifying this, Carrie! Makes sense! While my child had been correcting it in his notebook right away, I was the one who was marking it in the book. So I'm going to have to make him responsible for that. Thanks!

Re: Dictation: How does it work?

Along the lines of this, when the child gets something wrong, do you wait until the next day to repeat it or do you have the child do it again that same day? I was reading some Charlotte Mason information recently in a publication and when they talked about dictation, they mentioned the importance o...

Re: Cheerful Cursive!!!!

Just wanted to pop in and say that my son also was able to write in cursive independently and neatly after going through Cheerful Cursive. He didn't need additional instruction afterwards and he really seemed to enjoy the book. He liked the funny little character guys who teach the various strokes a...

Re: Singapore Math Supplements...

I use a combo of the Workbook and Intensive Practice from my son in 3B. There was actually a thread about this several weeks ago, so you may want to do some looking. The general concensus is that the workbook is plenty. I agree, it would be fine on its own. However, particularly if your son is quite...

Re: Favorite American History Read Alouds

My 8 year old son has absolutely loved American Pioneers and Patriots, a Christian Liberty Press book used in Beyond Little Hearts. It does a great job of teaching about U.S. history from the 1500s to the late 1800s in a story format. The stories and characters are very interesting to read about and...

Re: Is there an online reading program you would recommend?

Hi! Check out www.starfall.com. My kids love this website and it has really helped my kids in the learning to read/beginning reader stage. There are various games, interactive "videos" about different letter sounds, word blending activities, etc. The interactive online "books" (gingerbread man, snow...

Yes, it does have many more suggestions! It has suggestions for each genre, ande then for each genre, it's broken down by levels 2/3, 4/5, and 6/7/8. To give you a better idea of how many suggestions, for Fantasy level 2/3, there are 24 book titles, for Fantasy level 4/5, there are 17 titles, and fo...

Re: HELP! Second guessing Singapore Math.....

I should have read through my reply better. After reading it, it sounds like my 6 year old is using 3B. Well, he's smart, but not that smart! My 8 year old is in 3B and my 6 year old is in 1A. What I meant to convey but didn't because I rushed through the end is that it's working well for both boys ...
