Re: A little anxious about starting school....
Julie, Thank you for praying for me and dialoging with me. I received my box of beautiful RTR books yesterday and I have seen the proof that my 2nd ds doesn't need to try to tag along with this program. It looks great! He does have a strong interest in the Middle Ages right now, so I'm considering w...

Re: A little anxious about starting school....
Julie, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your perspective with me. I WILL give some time to think and pray about your suggestion. Some of the benefits of doing Beyond half speed would be 1)allowing my youngers to stay in Beyond (and later) Bigger while my oldest goes through Exploration...

Re: A little anxious about starting school....
Thank you all for your prayers. In the time I've had waiting for my guide one thing that begins to occur to me is that reading allowed the history from RTR to all my kids may not work. I also read an older thread about trying CTC with a variety of ages and noticing the length of the readings in the ...

A little anxious about starting school....
Forgive me for dumping my anxieties here, especially when I've been away from HOD the past year. I continue to have a lot of peace about ordering RTR for the coming year, but I am feeling a little anxious because we normally start school in mid July. I tried to start up ~3 or 4 weeks ago but we just...

Just ordered RTR! and a question re. logic in future guides
I won't tell you the long story about the MANY middle ages resources on my shelves and how I came to order RTR this morning, but I am excited to be coming back to HOD! I am relieved to have a load of decision making off my shoulders for the coming year especially regarding trying to integrate writin...

Re: Doing Bigger with delayed skills?
Geo, I just wanted to encourage you more as you consider Beyond for your ds. My oldest was eaves dropping on some of our Beyond lessons before I started him in Preparing and he was definitely engaged. So even though your ds is used to challenging literature, the living books in Beyond are appealing ...

Re: Best approach to teach worldview
It seems like most world view curricula are geared for the highschool years. But I heard John Stonestreet (I think is his name!) from Summit Ministries speak at a homeschool conference and I thought I heard him say that Summit Ministries had a worldview curricula for younger students that wou...

Re: Doing Bigger with delayed skills?
Geo, Yes I see what you are saying now about already having all you need to work on skills. It sounds like you are doing a great job of providing for his needs. I'll be interested to read other responses!

Re: Doing Bigger with delayed skills?
Geo, I'm interested in the responses you'll get too! If I had come to HOD when my oldest was younger I would have been in exactly the same place - he was a later reader, but very used to more challenging read alouds. Now my 2nd ds has been more in need of building listening skills and Beyond has bee...

Re: What do you use for your DC who are beyond HOD?
Hi Meg! I had to fight that internal battle over the history cycle a bit too. This was supposed to be my oldest ds's "modern year" but I didn't want to fold my 1st and Ker into modern history. I had thoughts about starting them in ancients on their own, or "treading water" a year and starting everyo...

Re: OT: URGENT Prayer Request
Tamara, I'm praying for you - praying that God will give you an early appt. time, that the dr./ultrasound tech will have both understanding and wisdom, and that your dc will be calm and mindful, and that most of all your new precious life is still well and safe, that God both strengthens and softens...

Re: Drawn into the Heart of Reading vs. other reading programs
Hi Deanna, I'm not Shannon, but I just wanted to chime in...my boys and I participated in a reading program last summer and this is exactly what they recommended for us to do when teaching our children the speed and pace of a book. First, I was to read the book in it's entirety to the boys so they ...

Re: finally decided on how to combine 4 yr old with 5 1/2 yr old
I'm so glad to hear what you're doing. I just started LHFHG with my 5 1/2 yo today with my nearly 4yo tagging along. LHFHG is my third program to add, so I'm not going to try for a 4th with LHTH. I think my nearly 4yo ds will enjoy the stories - he was already hanging out for other read alouds. If h...

Re: New to homeschooling and HOD
Hi Welcome! How exciting for you to be looking forward to homeschooling, that's great! I know Carrie, Julie, and others will be along to help evaluate your kids placement, but I just wanted to tell you that I understand what you're saying about your middle daughter. Often times there is more to cons...
