Re: FYI white boards.
I have a two year old doing this exact thing. He sneaks into his sister's room and colors with her pink and purple dry erase markers on everything. Any ideas on how to remove dry erase markers from painted walls? Magic Eraser didn't even work. My 3yo got dry erase marker on a nice dress (among othe...

Re: Preparing history project - Unit One
I am relieved beyond words as our placement decisions have been confirmed this week. Through all of my confusion and blundering  the Lord has placed our family just where He wants us ... He is kind and gracious. Months of needless agony.... We love HOD here. :D This describes us as well! P...

Re: Frustrated with length of school day...help! :)
Nicole, Reading this thread has been a real blessing to me. My oldest is just starting Rev to Rev half pace because he is not used to the HOD guide yet and the indepedence he needs. He is capable, but he is used to passively resisting independent work, reading books for hours until I finally get to ...

RevtoRev Science Unit 1 Day 1 Question
Sorry to be so dense! Unit 1, Day 1 of RevtoRev we are to do Exploration Education Lesson 1.1 - does that include the "Activity" to begin building the Racer? or only the "Lesson" portion?
Thanks!
Lynn
Thanks!

Re: Prayer request - Starting Rev to Rev
Thank you ladies for your prayers. It helped me so much today. Ds and I had a couple difficult moments and I was able to stay calm and FIRM which is what I was most concerned about. Julie, thank you for the suggestion to start half pace - we did! And we may need to stay half pace for longer than I w...

Re: Cursive woes..help?
I don't have a simple answer, but a couple thoughts.... If the next HWOT cursive book is the "Can-Do Cursive" it might get into more Language Arts type work than you want to do. Take a look at the grade level recommendation on it and as much of the Table of Contents and sample pages as possible. It ...

Prayer request - Starting Rev to Rev
I posted a week or more back about coming back to HOD this year. (I have one in Preparing and two in Beyond.) I did not place my oldest at that time. He loves to read and hates to write. We did part of RTR last year until my dh came home on leave from Afg. (He is now home for good!), but at the time...

Re: Reducing writing in Preparing?
Mumkins, We're not very far into Preparing, but I do know the struggles of having one who doesn't love to put pencil to paper! My first thought was to possibly go half pace for awhile, but then I saw in your signature that you are combining, so I understand that might not be what you want to do. My ...

Re: Newbie Question:Tests and Skill Mastery w HOD
Julie, I just sat down at the computer to take a short break from housework (It's Saturday), and read this thread even though I wasn't particularly concerned about testing (nor did I have an answer for the original poster). I'm so glad I read the thread anyway. What an inspirational glance at the pa...

Re: How much cursive is enough?
I am so glad I read this thread and that skwmackey asked the question! What a relief to read what others have done about this issue! (You can tell, I also have boys who do not love cursive!)
Thank you!
Thank you!

Julie,
Thank you SO much for taking time to post. I really appreciate your perspective on guide placement and sibling relationships! I'm relieved that combining my 8yo and 6yo is a workable plan.
Thank you for a warm welcome back

Re: Placement questions...
Ladies, Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post and post your replies. My 6yo getting left behind or hitting Bigger too soon are both very good points. I'm also torn by the desire to "save" time by combining vs. enjoying one on one time with each child in his/her own guide. I think avo...

Placement questions...
If you read my post about our coming back to HOD (here: http://www.heartofdakota.com/board3/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10154), I'm wanting to be sure of placement... Here's the short version. We've done a bit of HOD in the past, but between a new baby (3 years ago) and dh's deployment (1.5 years ago) we di...

Back to HOD - funny story :)
Long story, as short as I can make it.... I was using HOD last year and things were going well. My dh came home on leave from Afghanistan in Oct. and after he left again, we had a really hard time getting back into school. I knew we would have another interruption when dh came home for good in Febru...
