- Topic: Anyone leave MFW to come here to HOD?

I just switched from seriously considering MFW to purchasing HOD. I actually only found out about HOD 1 week before the homeschool bookfair in my area last month. Up until then, I was set on MFW, after having browsing their materials for the last 2-3 years, planning on starting with their Adventures...

Does anyone have a web site where I could find info on how to categorize all the books in my home library into the best "genre"? I don't have DITHOR yet, and won't be needing it for a while still, but I'm putting all my books on my computer with Collectorz.com's software, and I want to list the righ...

My 5 yr old tends to reverse his letters, but I blame part of that on me not overseeing him everytime he's writing something, which happens because while I'm busy teaching the basics to my older 2, he busy's himself with lots of drawings and loves to "write". The most obvious was seen recently with ...

Library thing sounds good, but how much info does it gather, like the genre, publisher, #of pages, edition, description, dewey decimal #, LOC #, etc? Does it allow you to sort, export to an Excel file, print? I'd like to be able to transfer the info to my Palm Pilot to take with me to bookstores, et...

OT: organizing my home library...
I have so many books, that every year before our hs bookfair I spend so much time trying to decide if I need to buy a book or if I already have it, that I want to put info of all our books, music cds, movie dvds/videos into a sortable and printable list on our computer. This will be my main organizi...

That's the great thing about Carrie's use of the word "unit" instead of "week" in HOD. You don't have to feel like it all has to get done in the same single week, or feel behind if you don't get it all done "for the week". Especially if you don't mind schooling in the summer, you could just go day b...

Well, I completely understand your frustration; been there and know the confusion you feel. :? First of all, I have the Beyond book and I can tell you that it has a spelling list for each unit/week, but doesn't include all the phono sounds like the "ough" you mentioned, and doesn't include any spell...

I've been using RS Math too, and plan to continue when we start Beyond this Fall. I've looked at Singapore many times, because it's so popular, but I've started seeing some of the fuits of RS already, so I just can't make the switch. I don't foresee any problems with using my own math. I'll just use...

Well, I've spent all afternoon looking over R&S 2, which I bought at the bookfair because I was told it would probably be too advanced for 2nd grade. But looking over it, I really don't think it's as much advanced in the concepts as it is in the amount of writing. But much of the writing could be el...

I agree with Tansy, and wouldn't buy the extension package for a struggling reader. But the deluxe self-study package looks to be real close to his reading level, so I think it'd depend on whether or not you think he'd need some extra independent work. I definitely would go with Preparing over MFW's...

Well, ds doesn't like to do much "required" writing, and I think he does enough of it elsewhere, with a penmanship page and ETC daily, so I just don't like to make him do more than necessary. I skip the copywork in FLL, because he's already doing copywork with his penmanship page. We use SWR for pho...

Well, this might not be any help, since I haven't done Beyond or Bigger, yet. But I looked at both this past weekend and it seems to me that they generally cover the same time period historically, with just different books. I decided on Beyond for all mine just because they fit that age best, but I ...

Which R&S grammar after FLL?
I've used all of FLL's 1st grade :) but only 1/4th of FLL's 2nd grade :( for my now 2nd grade ds. We've done most of it orally. For this next Fall when he'll be a 3rd grader, I'm not sure which R&S to follow FLL with? I've "heard" that R&S's English is advanced, but can't find anything "official" th...
