Re: Bigger Poetry question
We too are using the poems as copywork and just copying a little each day. Usually I tell him to do copy a couplet or sometimes I ask him to copy the entire stanza. Its helped him remember what a couplet and a stanza is. Once he's finished copying the poem, I usually have him draw an illustration to ...

Re: Do you "chunk" your boxes or "disperse"
Well without realizing it I guess I don't chunk. It sounds like we are doing just what you mentioned Carrie as far as alternating inspirational and disciplinary subjects. Originally my goal when coming up with a schedule was to keep with my son's rhythm. He has a hard time getting his engine revved ...

Totally off topic of homeschooling but....
We just found out I'm pregnant!!! :D  :D
About a year ago, we were told by a gynecologist that I have stage 4 endometriosis, that I would never be able to conceive again and that I should just get a hysterectomy. Quite in shock, I came home completely deflated as my husband and I had recently ...

Re: Help!!! With BOYS!!!!
Hi Summer! :D
I just wanted to share one other suggestion that works very well for my "wiggler" which is an idea that I actually got from when I worked in school as a Special Education Paraprofessional. Instead of sitting on a regular chair, I allow him to sit on an excercise ball. My son does his ...

Re: Organizing the children's completed work?
Here's what we do:
We use a plastic folder which I wrote "Done" on one side and "Not Done" on the other. As he finishes his work, he puts his papers into a "inbox" which is just a plastic tray. These papers usually require me to grade or preview. I usually make notations directly on his papers if ...

Re: Question re Spelling for Carrie or anyone...
Thanks Darci but we don't have an extension to pull from and even so I am afraid I'd be back to the same as I am currently doing testing him on over a dozen words find 10 that he has trouble spelling. Thanks anyway.

Re: Question re Spelling for Carrie or anyone...
Thanks for the advice. My son is 8yrs old and in 3rd grade. I have tried the dictation passages and they seem to be too easy for him so, I would appreciate your suggestion on how to study dictation with harder passages. Thank you!

Question re Spelling for Carrie or anyone...
I'm sort of at a loss for what to do about my son with his spelling. My son is what you call a "natural speller". My problem is that I'm having a difficult time finding words that he doesn't already know. I have a 3rd edition of Spelling Power that I've been pulling words from to create a list for ...

Re: Im not sure he really undertands the math
I agree with the others that you might need to hold off for awhile with the 1a but don't stop practicing the concept of adding and subtracting with him. I think sometimes its also a matter of maturity and it is amazing how a child won't get something in August or September but then all of sudden one ...

Re: How is R&S Preparing to Build (English 2) going?
After a rocky start to our year...we are loving the quick but very in depth lesson R&S has to offer. I love the extra review that has already cropped up in lesson 8 and my son likes that the writing portion of the assignments are not so long that it makes his fingers hurt. Thank you Carrie for such ...

Re: Cheerful Cursive Question?
Ok...guess I won't worry about it either. :D (There I go making a mountain out of molehill again. ) I couldn't agree with you more Kathleen. The short but very informative lesson is very refreshing. He just loves doing his cursive especially since it isn't a long drawn out process and he too ...
