Re: Grading a younger guide for a high schooler

Our insurance company used his standardized test scores. They don't accept homeschool grades. It is definitely worth the savings to get the discount though.

Re: Grading New American History Guide

Thanks for answering Carrie! I am very grateful you are releasing the guide while you are writing it! We did use the World Geography guide 2 years ago, so I do know in general what you are aiming for. I just seem to panic when I think about grading. I was looking at my WG guide and you've done a won...

Grading New American History Guide

If the grading and course descriptions were just finished for the World History Guide, how did you know how to grade for it while you were using it? I'm going to be using the new American History guide and would like some guidelines as we go along as to what I should be looking for. Will these be av...

Re: Sneak Peek #6: New American History Guide

We are returning to Rod and Staff this year. We stopped at R & S 5. So would it be ok to do R & S 6 next year and not R & S 8? Will it still be an effective and good part of the writing program for an 11th grader? I'm not sure he could handle the higher level book.

Re: Math Relief Anyone??

We are currently finishing up the last section of Algebra 1 with Math Relief. It has been a good program for my son. What I love about the program is it explains everything very well. If he doesn't get something, he just watches the video again and usually it clicks. We did try a few other Algebra p...

Re: Questions...skip MTMM

I decided to skip Rev to Rev with my 8th grader this year and moved into MTMM. It's worked very well for us and he's really enjoying the more challenging work. I didn't like skipping the time period completely so he has done a little reading about it. I figured that he would do the time period he mi...

Struggling with written narrations/medieval history writing

My son is 13 and is currently in RTR. He is really struggling with writing down his narrations. He can orally narrate well, but when it comes to writing them down it's not the same. He can usually come up with only 3-5 sentences. He doesn't capitalize or punctuate. There are a lot of incomplete sente...

Re: Help with Science (Preparing/ Res to Ref)

We sometimes run into the same problem. I just have them do the experiment and then see if they understand. My other problem is that sometimes I don't understand either!!! Then we ask Daddy or big brother. If they can't answer to our satisfaction we hit the computer to find the answer.

Re: pondering next year

I decided to have my son do it even though I wasn't sure if he would like/understand it. He actually really enjoys reading it. It doesn't add a lot of time to the day at all.

Reminded why I love HOD

I was at our homeschooling co-op this week meeting with a group of moms. They were talking about how tired they are of scheduling everything for their kids--like figuring out how many pages to read per day, etc. They were also talking about how nice it would be to actually use the bible for history ...

Re: Before HOD, Weekly Lesson Plans, but now what?

I still make a weekly lesson plan for me and my kids. They like to have the chart to check off the stuff they have completed. My son still uses the TM a lot to read his complete assignment. I like my TM to stay nice and can't bring myself to write in them. I just tell my kids to be careful with the ...

We love Draw and Write Through History

I just have to say again that we love these books! My son is doing CTC and today we drew the Roman soldier. We each draw our own picture and today my 8 year old joined us. We had a great time doing this! Thanks Carrie for using these books!
