Re: question about The Exciting World of Creative Writing

I don't think there is a teacher's guide. If there is, I somehow failed to get it

Re: Brand of watercolor paints for CTC

We used these paints: http://www.millerpadsandpaper.com/Jackson-Paint-12-Professional-Watercolors-3489.htm and used paper similar to this: http://www.millerpadsandpaper.com/9X12-Artist-Watercolor-Pad-4559.htm I did get mine from Miller Pads and Paper when they were at our convention. I'm sure that H...

Re: Finishing SM 6B in 6th grade...

I think it is more of an age thing and the way the brain matures. If she is getting the algebraic concepts though she very well may be ready for algebra in 7th grade. Our public schools here do algebra with their AG kids in 7th. I think it is a very individual thing when a child is ready to think ab...

Re: Placement for 6th and 8th

It sounds like good placement choices to me from what you've said. The amount of reading might be more than your dd likes to begin with but I don't think the level is going to be too high. We haven't done MTMM yet, so I have no experience with it, but it sounds like you have looked over the placemen...

Re: Singapore Math Textbook Question

We typically did all of the examples in the textbook as well. We did these together on the whiteboard. Then they typically did the workbook problems on their own. On days when there are a bunch of textbook problems, like a review, there usually isn't anything scheduled in the workbook. Then when the...

Re: CTC quesiton...

My dc were 10 and in 5th grade when they did CTC, but we had done LHFHG, Beyond, Bigger, and Preparing leading up to that. My advice is to go where she best places. Look at it again and see if you feel one is a better fit than the other. There is a big difference in the level of independence and the...

Re: Not Learning Letters

Have you tried LHTH? I know it uses a lot of different approaches to help a dc learn the letters. Something that has a multi-sensory approach like that might be helpful. We came to HOD a little to late to use that guide, but I love the looks of it. I think the songs that go with the letters, the act...

Re: Pics of Getting Ready for RTR

Thanks for sharing this Julie! Though we've finished RTR, I'm sure Rev2Rev will be similar and seeing your set-up is helpful. :) I have a question about the way you do the notebooking pages. Do you put the pages in the 3 ring binder to start and then have them put them in the plastic sleeve in the b...

Re: Are We Starting too Young?

I know there are others that can offer better insight than I can, but I'll try to give you a few thoughts. First and foremost I would diligently seek God on this issue and see how He leads you. Every child is different and sometimes it's difficult to distinguish whether it is just developmental or a...

Re: Guideline for R&S, written vs oral

I think the recommendation is to do 2/3 of the lesson orally then about 1/3 written. First I do the oral review from the teachers guide with my dc. Then we read the lesson together and do the oral questions. We usually do a good part of the written questions orally as well. I usually only save one s...

Re: cursive writing?

We didn't do the Italics book, but loved Cheerful Cursive. It was a fun book that my dc looked forward to doing everyday. One of the things that I really liked about it was that it helped them learn how to read cursive (various types) not just write it. :D

Re: Narration Vs. Summary

You're welcome. I'm glad that was helpful. I don't remember when it was, but there were instructions to type up an oral narration on occasion in one guide. In looking back over them, I think it was in Preparing, but I could be mistaken. It's nice to do on occasion so that you can see how far they ha...

Re: Preparing Question

We used Preparing in 4th grade when my dc had just turned 9. It was a good fit, but we had done LHFHG, Beyond, and Bigger, the three years prior, so it was the natural progression for us. I agree with the others that the grade really doesn't matter, just go with where your dc places on the placement...

Re: Storytime

We do a big block of our together time so we have the guide available for the other things as well. So the guide is always with our storytime. Since my dc are older now, the guide is mostly theirs, and they just bring it to me when we do our together time. They are responsible for figuring out the s...

Re: Singapore Math 6A/6B necessary?

We didn't go directly from 6B to algebra exactly but only because of the age of my dc. We did go to a pre-algebra class, but in comparing our pre-algebra class to the algebra classes, it was more algebra than pre-algebra and my dc did very well. Singapore prepared them well. I don't think your ds wi...
