Re: Foerster's taking forever - HELP!
Thank you, ladies! These suggestions help. We have been using the flash drive from the beginning along with the solutions manual (so thankful for that!) and we are following the schedule from the flash drive. At your suggestion, I have started setting a timer for 1.5 hours and that seems to be helpi...

Foerster's taking forever - HELP!
For those of you with experience using Foerster's please give some advice. My son is doing Foerster's Algebra 1 this year in MTMM. He is excellent at math, starts first thing in the morning and works very diligently. Today he has been working for 2.5 hours and is still not done. This has been a recu...

Schedule for new Presidents DVD in MTMM??
Hi all, We are just starting MTMM this week and this morning my son went to watch the first installment of the Presidents DVD and discovered that the DVD we got with MTMM a few months ago doesn't match the manual. We received a revised schedule with our order of the new Presidents book, but we did n...

Re: CTC Storytime box..Girl Interest or History Interest..
We also chose the history books for CTC. We're only half way through, but I think that they have really helped my ds to "see" the history that he's been learning about. Also, if you're following the history "path" for Storytime, you will also read through the OT books of Ruth, Jonah, and Esther - wh...

And now for a DITHOR question...
I was just wondering how independent DITHOR is in the upper levels - 4/5 and 6/7/8. I used the 2/3 guide for a year with my oldest, but am not familiar with the older guides. Is it mostly teacher-led or is it work that the student does by themselves and then "conferences" with the teacher about afte...

Another returning HOD'er...
I've noticed the last few months that there are a number of people returning to HOD, and this family is one of them. We have been away from HOD for about a year and a half and will be starting full time in the fall with CTC for my 5th grader and Bigger for my 3rd grader. I originally took a year off...

Re: Beyond for 6yo Grade 1
We used Beyond for my ds for 1st grade. He was 6.5 when we started and it was a perfect fit for him. If your dd fits squarely in Beyond, then it's probably the right place for her to be. I wouldn't worry too much about which grade she's in - it's more important that her skills match those in Beyond....

Re: Repeating Math
If you substitute "son" for "daughter", I could have written your post. My ds did mostly fine with his math this year, but there were a few areas that seemed to give him some trouble - namely number bonds and word problems - especially when we got to double digits. I gave him the 1A/1B placement tes...

Re: Singapore Math
We just finished 1B about a week ago and after reviewing some things with ds and taking a look at 2A, I've realized that there are a few things he needs to work on before he can move on. So I've purchased the level 1 word problems and the extra practice book and we'll be spending some time on those ...

Re: Does LHFHG develop listening skills?
My ds was the same way when we started LHFHG. I was questioning whether or not he was ready, but we kept going with the Burgess books and saw a huge change by the end of the year. He really grew into it. He is definitely a visual learner, with little auditory skills. I think the storytime hel...

Re: placement...maybe not HOD?
Just wanted to encourage you that my son was the same way when he first started with both the Storytime and History (did better with the Bible lessons that the History stories, I think because he was familiar with them.) It took him a long time to grow into being able to answer the Storytime questio...

Re: what do you use for health
We live in a state that requires health too and we are using Abeka also. I like it because it doesn't take much time and can be done fairly independently. We tried Horizons in K and it was just way too much teacher prep for me. I think that most health at this stage is covered by life and probably w...

Re: Anyone else obsessed?
Nope, not crazy. Or at least, if you are crazy - then you have company. We're finishing Beyond in a few weeks and I'm trying to figure out how many of the Storytime options that we didn't choose for this past year I can fit into read-alouds for the summer. 8) And my wishlists - don't even get ...
